It has been an insane year for few years for the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite having a promising line-up in the bag, Kevin Feige fumbled it at the last minute as the studio launched into a painfully elaborate experimental phase filled with movies and spin-offs that made even lesser sense than Trump winning a second Presidency.
However, despite the confusion that clouded the MCU Phases Four and Five, one of the better projects to have come out of the franchise was Chloé Zhao’s Eternals. The 2021 film has been one of the most divisive movies in the MCU and with good reason, but Eternals has had its highs – by introducing a most colorful and diverse cast, a deeply fantastical storyline, and brilliant cinematography that almost convinces fans to forgive its depthless plotholes.
Eternals star defeats UFC champion with a single hit
Not every actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can boast of taking down a UFC Champion. Other than Jake Gyllenhaal‘s highly-publicized stunt on UFC 285 for his film, Road House, there has been no connection between the two realms of entertainment so far. But now, someone else has finally entered the ring.
The South Korean moviestar and Eternals actor Ma Dong-seok, who also goes by the name Don Lee, has defeated the UFC Champion Alex Pereira in a single strike on the boxing machine. What started as a friendly match between the two soon gave rise to an online fan frenzy as the world began drawing comparisons between Ma Dong-seok and the Hulk for his extraordinary show of strength.
Marvel fans celebrates Ma Dong-seok’s insane talent
It is not every day that one gets to see a Marvel action star actually proving his worth as a superhero in the real world. However, Ma Dong-seok did just that in a friendly game against the Brazilian martial artist and UFC champion, Alex Pereira.
In a 1v1 match on the boxing machine, Pereira scored 8534 with a single punch while Ma Dong-seok surpassed Pereira’s tally by nearly a thousand, racking up 9525 on the screen. The difference in number has sent the online fan community into a meltdown as Marvel fans took to social media to praise the South Korean actor.
On Instagram, a fan going by the handle 914prinxe claimed in a matter of fact statement, “He’s supposed to be the strongest Eternal, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t hit harder,” while another fan, mr_high_ground simply said, “Dude’s literally the Korean Hulk.”
Meanwhile, some Marvel fans referred to his role in the MCU film, Eternals, by saying “Gilgamesh living up to his expectations, I see” (via annatheadventurous) while another user called winnermindsets funnily claimed, “They say Don Lee once punched a script into a blockbuster movie.”
His win may have made Ma Dong-seok score some extra brownie points in the eyes of the Marvel fan community today. But considering that the actor used to train martial artists before transitioning to the movie business, it is not surprising for him to defeat Alex Pereira with a single punch.
Eternals is available to stream on Disney+.
