Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is bringing all new Goku‘s battle against a God of Destruction back to the screen, but its streaming rollout is giving anime fans another reason to look beyond Netflix. Hulu Japan has officially listed the enhanced anime for October 15, 2026, following its Japanese television premiere on October 11. The development adds another major franchise title to the streaming competition, where platform availability can make all the difference.
However, there is an important distinction: Hulu’s announcement concerns its Japanese service, while international streaming arrangements differ. Here’s what the release means for the Dragon Ball franchise and why Netflix could find itself at a disadvantage.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Sets Its Hulu Release Date
In the United States, Beerus will release on Hulu on October 11. Now, the Netflix release is set for October 17, two days after the Hulu debut, which could jeopardise Netflix’s streaming revenue. Additionally, Crunchyroll has separately announced streaming for October 11 across territories including the United States, Canada, India, Europe, and other regions.
Hulu Japan’s official listing confirms that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will become available on October 11, 2026. Meanwhile, the Japanese TV/streaming schedule follows the anime’s television debut on October 11 at 11:15 p.m. JST. The official Dragon Ball website also confirms that streaming services in Japan will begin offering the series on a staggered schedule.
This isn’t an entirely new chapter in Goku’s story. Announced in January 2026, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is an enhanced edition of the original Dragon Ball Super anime, featuring updated visual presentation and more immersive battle scenes intended to reproduce Akira Toriyama’s original vision more faithfully. Toriyama is credited with the original work, story, and character designs.
The story begins several years after the defeat of Majin Buu, when Beerus awakens from his long slumber. The God of Destruction hears rumors about the Saiyan who defeated Frieza and seeks out Goku, putting Earth in danger once again. For fans, that means revisiting one of the franchise’s defining confrontations, now with enhanced visuals.
The project also arrives during a significant period for the franchise. Dragon Ball Super originally premiered in 2015, expanding the series beyond the events of Dragon Ball Z. Beerus became a major addition to its mythology, introducing a divine hierarchy that would help shape later arcs.
Why Dragon Ball Super: Beerus‘s Hulu Debut Spells Trouble for Netflix

[Credit: Toei Animation]Netflix’s potential disadvantage comes down to a familiar streaming problem: having a large anime catalogue doesn’t guarantee access to every major franchise release. When a recognizable property like Dragon Ball arrives on competing services, viewers may have to look elsewhere to watch it.
For Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the immediate competitive challenge is more specific. Hulu and Crunchyroll has announced an October 11 international rollout across numerous territories, Hulu Japan has a confirmed October 15 streaming date. That gives rival platforms a clear opportunity to attract fans seeking the new version.
Still, the announcement does not prove that Netflix has lost Dragon Ball rights, that it was formally excluded from negotiations, or that the release has caused measurable subscriber losses. The real setback is one of visibility and convenience. Anime fans often follow major releases wherever they are available, and a service that cannot offer a particular title may miss out on some of that viewing interest.
With Dragon Ball Super: Beerus bringing a familiar saga back into the spotlight, Netflix faces competition from platforms with confirmed plans for this edition. Goku might be preparing to challenge Beerus again, but the streaming platforms are fighting their own battle for viewers. For now, Hulu Japan has its date, Crunchyroll has its international rollout, and Netflix’s role in this particular release remains unconfirmed.
