DFB-Pokal: RB Leipzig advance after comfortable victory at Moselstadion

RB Leipzig started life without Yan Diomande with a cup victory away at Eintracht Trier.

RB Leipzig comfortably beat Eintracht Trier in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The Regionalliga side managed to keep the scoreline respectable despite conceding twice inside the first six minutes.

Brajan Gruda opened the floodgates from close range before Willi Orbán’s seventh goal of the competition. Just before the half-time whistle, Riddle Baku’s deflected effort produced the third goal for the visitors.

Rocco Reitz and Conrad Harder were among the four players entering as substitutes in Martin Demichelis’ first changes as RB Leipzig coach, and they combined for the fourth goal less than ten minutes later.

The Danish striker might not be at the club when Leipzig start their Bundesliga campaign at home against Gladbach next week. Antonio Nusa, who looked to stay at the club despite AS Roma’s interest early this summer, scored the fifth goal in injury-time with a trademark finish.

There was still time to reach half a dozen goals as Ezechiel Banzuzi got a deserved goal from close range with the last kick of a one-sided game.
