SUMMARY

  • The world lost its collective mind when Henry Cavill played a Wolverine variant in Deadpool & Wolverine.
  • With the positive reviews of Cavill's brief scene making waves, he could be the right pick for Zack Snyder's plans for his own Wolverine film.
  • However, Snyder's film plans might work better in a multiversal setting instead of in the same universe as Hugh Jackman's character.

Deadpool & Wolverine has rocked the MCU recently. With the film bringing to life the Deadpool Corp, Dogpool, and even Elektra, Blade, and some Fantastic Four characters, fans were sent reeling. However, those additions to the film were not the only ones that caught attention. In fact, a brief cameo from Henry Cavill shone a spotlight on an unconfirmed Zack Snyder project that could have included the beloved actor.

Although Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine stole most of the film’s focus, Cavill’s brief cameo gave fans a look at the actor in the mutant’s shoes. The world might not have been ready for another Logan. However, the film gave them a glimpse into what could have been if Snyder’s plans for an MCU film had been seen through.

The unmade Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill Wolverine movie

For years, rumors of Zack Snyder helming a Wolverine movie have made their way online. While the idea always intrigued fans given the director’s controversial casting choices, it never became a reality. However, the recent hit film, Deadpool & Wolverine may have opened the floodgates for him and Henry Cavill. After all, the DC star’s cameo in the film sent shockwaves through the MCU and all its fans.

Snyder has never formally declared that he would cast Cavill in the role. But it seems like it could be the perfect fit. In fact, during a conversation with the Happy Sad Confused podcast just a few months ago, the director admitted the film had not been green-lit. However, he added that casting the right actor would require a rather difficult conversation with Marvel studios.

Luckily for Snyder, it looks like that may be changing. After all, Cavill’s recent cameo has set the stage for him to join the MCU. However, those rumors have not been confirmed as of yet.

How Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill’s Wolverine could fit in the MCU

The MCU and its fans are nothing if not loyal to their superheroes to a fault. From the likes of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, fans have no wish to move on from the perfectly cast stars. However, with the multiverse coming into play, it opens a lot of doors for different variants of everyone’s fan-favorite superheroes. That is exactly what could happen if Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill decide to team up again and give the world a new Logan.

With Snyder’s ability to delve more into a character’s mythical aspects, fans could have gotten a darker version of Wolverine. However, Cavill could have helped tie it together perfectly with his special ability to portray both strength and vulnerability through his characters. Apart from that, the actor could have also brought more depth to the mutant. It could have shown fans a warrior, who was grappling with his feral instincts and his role as a hero.

The world might not be ready for another Wolverine. However, with the love for Cavill pouring in after the Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine cameo, maybe it could happen someday. Although it might just work better as a multiverse project instead of a standalone film. After all, that would give Snyder more characters to play around with while also expanding the multiverse to include a brand-new Wolverine.
