Summer Screams 2026 runs from July 28 through August 18, giving you three weeks to experience limited-time game modes, complete event quests, and unlock themed rewards. Rather than keeping every mode available throughout the event, Behaviour Interactive is rotating between three returning modifiers this time around, with each one available for just one week before the next takes over.

Here’s the complete schedule:

DatesModifier/Game Mode
July 28 – August 4 (8 AM PT / 11 AM ET) Chaos Shuffle
August 4 – August 11 (8 AM PT / 11 AM ET) Lights Out
August 11 – August 18 (8 AM PT / 11 AM ET) 2v8

Week 1: Chaos Shuffle (July 28 to August 4)

Summer Screams begins with Chaos Shuffle, which removes the ability to plan your loadout before a trial. Every Survivor and Killer receives a random set of perks, while items and add-ons are also randomized; in other words, you’ll have to work with whatever the mode gives you.

This is the eighth version of Chaos Shuffle, and the only week you’ll be able to play it during the course of the event. Since no two matches start with the same builds, you’ll often end up using perks or item combinations that rarely see play in standard matches.

Week 2: Lights Out (August 4 to August 11)

Lights Out returns in the second week, stripping away most of the information you normally rely on during a trial. Perks, items, add-ons, and offerings are disabled, while thicker fog, muted sound cues, and the lack of a Terror Radius make tracking the Killer far more difficult.

To offset the increased difficulty, Behaviour has also tweaked a few mechanics to balance the mode: generators begin with a small amount of progress, Survivors repair them faster than usual, and more chests spawn across the map than in a standard trial.

Week 3: 2v8 (August 11 to August 18)

The final week brings back 2v8, replacing the standard one Killer versus four Survivors format with two Killers facing a team of eight. It closes out Summer Screams with the ninth iteration of one of DBD’s most popular limited-time modes.

Outside of the expanded team size, 2v8 follows the same gameplay rules introduced in previous versions. The event version uses the established ruleset while adding its own set of event quests, giving you another way to earn rewards before the event ends on August 18.

Like previous seasonal events, Summer Screams 2026 includes a dedicated set of Event Quests that can be completed while the event is live. Part 1 is available at launch, with additional quests becoming available alongside the Lights Out and 2v8 modifiers in the following weeks. Once unlocked, Event Quests will remain available until the event wraps up on August 18.

Completing Event Quests also counts toward three Very Rare Summer-themed Banner rewards. These feature characters like Sable Ward, Vee Boonyasak, Lee Yun-jin, The Trickster, and are unlocked after completing a total of 4, 9, and 14 Summer Screams quests, regardless of which week they were introduced.
