The feature has scored a perfect 100 among women over 35 with an overall score of 92, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This puts the Paramount-Skydance sports drama in a position to make a profit at the box office if everything goes well.

Mr. Irrelevant follows the story of John Tuggle, a running back for the New York Giants during the 1983 NFL season. With just one season under his belt, Tuggle would go on to win the New York Giants Special Teams Player of the Year. Tapping into this story with filmmaker Jonathan Levine has worked well for the Superman star.

Mr. Irrelevant’s perfect score of 100 with women and an overall score of 92 signals a much-needed comeback for sports dramas. Romcoms have managed to get their footing on streaming, with many shows and movies being regularly ordered for customers to watch.

Sports dramas, meanwhile, continue to exist in the realm of prestige territory, doing well if only big stars or directors are attached to it (Marty Supreme and The Smashing Machine, for example). With a budget of $30 million, Mr. Irrelevant takes breakout star David Corenswet and manages to score well with women when the genre has been largely associated with a male audience.

The cast has the legendary Michael Shannon as Tuggle’s coach, giving the movie an interesting pairing between the DCEU Superman villain and the current DCU’s Superman. With a partnership with the NFL, the movie will have enough marketing and push during its release, but will that be enough to sway audiences to buy the ticket?

With a slated Christmas release, David Corenswet’s Mr. Irrelevant will see immense competition as it is sandwiched between blockbuster movies that are the talk of the town. A week before its release, both Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part III will drop on the same day. Given the immense hype for both films, worldwide audiences will likely be spending their movie allowances for IMAX tickets or multiple viewings.
