Daemons of the Shadow Realm Season 2 Officially Confirmed at Crunchyroll

Hiromu Arakawa’s Daemons of the Shadow Realm has barely finished opening the door to its bizarre supernatural world, and already the anime is heading back in. Following the broadcast of Season 1’s 24th and final episode on September 19, 2026, Season 2 was officially announced, accompanied by a new super-teaser visual and special announcement video.

The timing is fitting for a series built around secrets. Premiering in April 2026, the anime adapts Arakawa’s Yomi no Tsugai, the Fullmetal Alchemist creator’s ongoing manga about twins Yuru and Asa, humans who can command supernatural beings known as Daemons. The manga itself has already surpassed 7.5 million copies in circulation and won the 2023 TSUTAYA Comic Award Grand Prize, giving the anime plenty of story (and expectations) to carry forward.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm Season 2 Gets Official Greenlight

The Season 2 announcement arrived immediately after the Season 1 finale in Japan on September 19. The official Daemons of the Shadow Realm website now carries the Season 2 announcement, while the production also unveiled a special teaser video and super-teaser visual.

Crunchyroll, which streamed the first season internationally, reported the continuation as well. However, the announcement currently stops short of revealing a release date or window, episode count, new production details, or a full Season 2 staff announcement. In other words, Season 2 is confirmed to be in production, but the timetable remains firmly behind the curtain.

Season 1 was produced by BONES FILM, with Masahiro Ando directing, Noboru Takagi handling series composition, Nobuhiro Arai overseeing character design, and Kenichiro Suehiro composing the music. The official site lists BONES as production supervisor and BONES FILM as the animation studio. Season 1 was not a rushed single-cour experiment. Its 24-episode run had room to establish Arakawa’s strange mythology, and Season 2 can now build directly on that foundation.

What Happened in Daemons of the Shadow Realm Season 1?

Yuru begins the story as a young hunter living in an isolated mountain village with his twin sister Asa. Their apparently simple life collapses when the village is attacked by armed outsiders searching for Yuru. Even stranger, Yuru discovers that the Asa he knew is not the whole truth, sending him into a much larger mystery involving their birth, their separation, and the supernatural Daemons surrounding them.

Yuru’s journey eventually introduces him to Dera, the Kagemori family, and the twin Daemons Left and Right, whom he forms a contract with after awakening them. His search for the truth about Asa becomes tangled with competing factions, powerful Daemon users, and the question of why Yuru and Asa were born as the mysterious twins who “split day and night.”

The season also digs deeper into Asa’s disturbing history, her abilities, and the forces pursuing the siblings. By the time the story reaches its finale, the series has moved far beyond Yuru simply trying to find his sister. The twins have become the center of a much larger conflict.

What to Expect From Daemons of the Shadow Realm Season 2?

The biggest clue to Season 2’s direction comes from where the anime leaves the story and what happens next in Hiromu Arakawa’s manga. Season 1 adapts roughly through the Fujimurayama Warehouse storyline, covering the early material through around Chapter 31, meaning the manga’s subsequent arcs provide a clear pool of material for the continuation.

The first major storyline Season 2 could tackle is the Nishino Village Arc, which begins after the events surrounding the Fujimurayama Warehouse and expands the conflict surrounding Yuru and Asa. This section brings the mysterious Nishino Village faction much further into the story, including its leader Misasagi, who is already teased alongside Ivan in the Season 2 announcement material.

From there, the manga moves into material involving Yuru’s connection to the Nishino group, the increasingly complicated relationship between the different factions, and further revelations surrounding the twins and their Daemons. These developments would allow the anime to move beyond the relatively contained conflicts of Season 1 and explore the larger supernatural structure that Arakawa has been quietly constructing.

The manga has progressed through Chapter 55 as of the latest available listing, giving the anime a substantial amount of material to draw from while leaving the precise Season 2 endpoint impossible to confirm at this stage. For viewers who want to remain spoiler-free, the manga already has a defined next phase after Season 1 (Chapters 1–31; concluding the major warehouse/Kagemori clan confrontation arc).

How much of that material Season 2 adapts will depend on its eventual episode count and production schedule, neither of which has been announced yet.
