Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 7 Review: The Twins’ Curse Takes a Brutal Turn

Spoiler Alert !!!

This article contains spoilers from Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 7.

After watching Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 7, I have to admit that it was easily one of the most emotionally heavy episodes so far. Previously, in Episode 6, the Kagemori clan mansion was attacked by some unknown attackers, and the episode ended with Asa revealing to Yuru that she had died once before.

Now, Episode 7 confirms that the twins’ powers “Seal” and “Break” are indeed connected to death itself. What surprised me most was that this episode offered very little action; rather, it was filled with character psychology and trauma, along with several major reveals. Let us explore in detail.

Episode 7 Finally Reveals the True Cost of Asa’s “Break”

Without a doubt, the best part of episode 7 would be Asa’s confession regarding her death. Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 6 ended with Asa admitting that she had died before, and now, in this episode, the anime finally explained the horrifying truth behind her abilities.

In episode 6 of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, we saw how powerful Asa’s “Break” ability was, but episode 7 reveals the horrific price she had to pay for that power. After being murdered by an assassin from Higashimura, Asa finds herself in a shadow realm where a mysterious daemon appears and gives her two choices: accept death or return to life by awakening her forbidden ability.

What made this sequence so effective for me was that the anime does not present Asa’s awakening as a cool power-up moment. Instead, it feels like a traumatic rebirth that permanently changed her as a person.

The reveal also completely reframes her behavior throughout the series – her emotional instability, her overprotectiveness toward Yuru, and even her kindness toward abused daemons in Episode 6 suddenly feel much sadder.

However, the scariest part of all these revelations is that Yuru may also eventually need to die in order to awaken his “Seal” ability. This one point alone makes the existence of the twins sound more like a curse than a blessing.

Yuru’s Childhood Flashback Explains His Entire Personality

Though much of the episode revolved around Asa’s past and how she got her abilities, it was Yuru’s childhood flashback moments that I felt were at the heart of the episode. Earlier episodes showed that Yuru maintained his calm even during life-and-death situations, and this episode explained why.

It was particularly interesting to see how his father had taught him to stay calm after an assassination attempt. His father’s advice to “calm down, analyze the situation, and determine what you should do” basically became the foundation of Yuru’s personality.

I especially appreciated how naturally the episode connects this lesson to Yuru’s previous moments in the series. This flashback also brings up some significant questions about Yuru’s parents. The scene in which his father tells him not to say anything to anyone after reaching the village about the attack suggests that the adults were aware that the twins were under threat.

Then, after that, Yuru’s parents left the village along with Asa, leaving Yuru alone there. This is yet another mystery the anime chooses not to resolve.

Another character whose presence I enjoyed in the episode was Dera. Seeing him casually walking into enemy territory while Jin and Gonzo stared at him was somehow funny. His relaxed attitude makes him feel like someone who has spent years navigating dangerous political conflicts behind the scenes.

Asuma, however, felt even more suspicious after his explanation about sleeping through the attack because Jin specifically pointed out that he normally has exceptionally sharp hearing. That contradiction makes it hard to tell whether Asuma genuinely missed the attack or intentionally chose not to interfere, especially since he already seems to know more about the twins than he shows.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 7 Final Verdict

Overall, Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 7 feels like the moment Daemons of the Shadow Realm fully commits to its darker themes. Rather than overwhelming viewers with everything at once, the anime carefully reveals horrifying information piece by piece, allowing the audience to slowly connect the dots themselves.

What I admire most is that the series refuses to present any faction as fully trustworthy. Higashimura appears manipulative, the Kagemori clan feels frighteningly ruthless, and even Dera’s group clearly hides important secrets. The further the story progresses, the more it feels like Yuru and Asa are trapped inside a generational conspiracy built around sacrifice, death, and supernatural control.

With Asa’s tragic confession, Yuru’s defining childhood flashback, and the terrifying implications surrounding the twins’ powers, Episode 7 easily stands as the anime’s strongest and most emotionally devastating episode so far.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
