Creature Commandos has given fans a first look into the DCU, introducing a slew of characters (like Rick Flag Sr.) who have been confirmed to be making a live-action appearance soon. However, the show has also given audiences a glimpse of characters that as far as they know, have not even been cast yet in the DCU.
In Episode 4, Circe showed Amanda Waller a vision of a future where Illana takes over the world with her army from Pokolistan, which would cause heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman to fall in battle. Superman was seen in the outfit that he would be wearing in James Gunn’s Superman. However, Episode 6 of the show gave us a better look at another character, without revealing what they might wear, given that James Gunn has still not decided on the look for the character in live-action.
Batman’s introduction was genius in Creature Commandos
While Batman has a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in Circe’s vision, Episode 6 was able to deliver a much better look at the character. However, as the character is often shrouded in shadows, James Gunn made use of that visual motif to leave the character’s suit ambiguous, which gave him more room to figure out how the character would look in live action.
Gunn revealed to Rotten Tomatoes that he did not want to commit to a single design so early, saying:
It makes sense that James Gunn is not committing to a suit just yet, as it is not known when Brave and the Bold is going to hit theatres. It has been revealed that the film will be slightly postponed, which means Gunn will probably take more time to settle on a Batman suit.
A buff Batman, as depicted in Creature Commandos, might rule out Robert Pattinson as the DCU Batman
Matt Reeves‘ The Batman sequel has been delayed to 2027, and a slew of fans have speculated that this could be because James Gunn is still pursuing his fellow director to let Robert Pattinson’s Batman exist in the DCU. While Gunn himself has said multiple times that Reeves’ Batman will be counted as an Elseworlds story, there is a section of the fandom that believes that Pattinson’s Batman would be perfect for the DCU.
However, from the silhouette that audiences have seen in Creature Commandos, it seems less likely that Robert Pattinson will be the Batman of the DCU, given that the latter is much leaner than what was depicted. The Batman of the DCU might be someone who can be played by Alan Ritchson, given that the character’s design in the animated series seems to have a body type closely resembling his.
Creature Commandos can be streamed on HBO Max.
