Chet Hanks Confronts Eric André And Gets Hit With ‘Call Tom Hanks’ Jab

Chet Hanks and Eric André’s long-running tension spilled into a public confrontation at ComplexCon, turning an old television-show grievance into an awkward face-off in front of a crowd. 

Chet filmed himself approaching the 43-year-old comedian at the Los Angeles Convention Center, apparently looking to finally address comments André made about him years earlier. 

However, while the model appeared pleased with the encounter afterward, André managed to get the final word with a pointed reference to Chet’s famous father.

Chet Hanks Turned An Old Eric André Grievance Into A Public Face-Off

The encounter centered on a disagreement that had been simmering since Chet Hanks appeared on “The Eric André Show” in 2023. 

At ComplexCon, Chet approached André from behind and placed a hand on his shoulder, while one of the comedian’s security guards immediately tried to pull it away. 

The video which Chet posted on Instagram showed André turning around, looking surprised, and initially reaching out to shake Chet’s hand, but he did not appear interested in accepting the gesture.

The crowded convention center made much of the exchange difficult to hear, particularly because André did not appear to be wearing a microphone. 

Still, the interaction quickly became more tense as security moved between the two men.

Chet Faced A Four-Guard Security Wall At ComplexCon

Rather than allowing the confrontation to continue, André’s security detail stepped in and created distance between the duo. 

Some guards moved to block Chet Hanks while others escorted André away through the busy convention center.

The “Empire” actor later referenced the security presence directly in his Instagram caption, writing that André “apparently travels to ComplexCon with 4 security guards (because the environment makes him uneasy).”

According to his account, the confrontation was also connected to a separate grievance involving his Jamaican accent. 

He claimed André eventually acknowledged having an issue with him “mocking Caribbean culture” when he used the accent years earlier.

The rapper framed that revelation sarcastically, writing, “WHO KNEW that in addition to the brain rot and poop joke humor he is known for, Eric is also such a passionate cultural activist!!!”

The moment that ultimately defined the confrontation came after André’s security team separated him from Chet. 

As he walked away, the comedian looked back and shouted, “Call Tom Hanks!”

Chet, meanwhile, returned to the group of friends who had been filming the exchange and appeared pleased with how the confrontation had unfolded. He smiled and said, “That was a long time coming.”

He also addressed the encounter in his caption, claiming André had “NO MEMORY WHATSOEVER” of criticizing him publicly after Chet believed he had “outshined him on his own show.”

Chet ended the post with a more playful sign-off, writing, “Great running into you Eric!!!!”

André Challenged Chet To Confront Him In Person

The ComplexCon encounter gave Chet Hanks and Eric André an opportunity to come face-to-face, but the latter had already made clear years earlier that he wanted Hanks to confront him directly. 

In a 2023 interview with The Independent, André addressed the dispute surrounding Chet’s appearance on “The Eric André Show” and rejected the idea that their conflict was simply promotional.

André said, “Tell him to say that s*** to my f***ing face,” after Chet had criticized him publicly following the filming of the show.

The comedian also mocked Chet’s connection to his famous father, joking, “I don’t believe he’s Tom Hanks’s son,” before adding, “I want him to f***ing come down here and show us his birth certificate.”

The tension between Chet and André dates back to Hanks’ appearance on “The Eric André Show,” where André later claimed the actor and rapper turned the chaotic set into an even more unpredictable environment.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in March 2023, André described Chet as a “tough cookie” and said, “He broke our crew. It felt like Rust. He broke us down.” 

He then claimed Chet rode a motorcycle around the studio and nearly knocked “a bunch of grips and gaffers off their ladders,” calling the behavior “very dangerous.” André also said Chet “tried to prank us back, but we edited out all his bullsh-t.” 

As The Independent reported, the “White Boy Summer” singer later pushed back after the interview was published, explaining that he had never watched the show before appearing on it. After seeing its chaotic style, he said, “Alright, cool, I’ll match that energy.”

According to Chet, they brought a dirt bike onto the stage, and because he already rode dirt bikes, he picked it up and rode around the set. 

When people warned him he could get hurt, he recalled responding, “Chill I just popped a little wheelie.” He then accused André of disliking the fact that he had “outshined you on your own f-cking show.”
