Canadiens players team up with STM for new ‘next station’ métro announcements

The next time métro riders pass through the Bonaventure and Lucien L’Allier stations, they might notice a different voiceover than usual.

That’s because starting Thursday and until the end of the Canadiens’ playoff run, players Juraj Slafkovsky, Jakub Dobes, Lane Hutson and Alexandre Texier recorded “prochaine station” announcements for the two stations.

“Replacing the announcements is a one-time initiative carried out as part of the partnership with the Montreal Canadiens, at no additional cost, allowing the STM to help bring the excitement of the playoffs to life,” the STM said in a statement.

While the voiceover came easy for Texier, a native of France, the other three did their best to say the announcement in French. Texier and Hutson tackled Lucien L’Allier, while Slafkovsky and the netminder Dobes did Bonaventure.

It made sense for the two stations to get the special Habs treatment, since they’re the stations closest to the Bell Centre.

The Habs had a similar promotion with the STM earlier this season involving Cole Caufield, Arber Xhekaj, Mike Matheson, Alexandre Carrier, Kaiden Guhle, Hutson and Dobes, but those voiceovers were only for online and not used on the métro.

Game 1 of the Canadiens’ first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning takes places Sunday on the road, before returning to Montreal for Games 3 and 4.

The STM said the new onboard announcements will be used every day, regardless of whether the Habs play or not.

This isn’t the STM’s first nod to the Habs. They drew fire from the OQLF a year ago for using the anglicized “Go Habs Go!” message on their buses. The rule has since been reversed.

While the STM also said they were rolling out the “Go Habs Go!” on buses again, they said displaying the message was “at the driver’s discretion.”
