Bryan Cranston has donned a ton of roles ever since he initially launched his career with minor parts back in the late 1980s. But it wasn’t until he came across his best role of all time – also his breakthrough role – that his acting career eventually skyrocketed to tremendous heights of fame and success: Walter White in the smash-hit Breaking Bad series.

Effortlessly enough, Cranston went on to be widely associated with the role, with his name and appearance used synonymously with White’s. But while that one character continues to rank as the actor’s most famous role to date, embodying one other insanely controversial personality in a biopic would actually put up a competition to White: Hugh Hefner.

Bryan Cranston as Hugh Hefner Could Become His New Most Famous Role

Although Cranston has never faced a lack of the roles he could play, even he can’t help but truthfully acknowledge the reality that the character of Walter White has inevitably been his best one to date in his decades-old career. But while that role continues to take him to extraordinary heights of fame, playing a controversial personality could actually end up overtaking the fame connected with the role of White.

The controversial figure in the talk is none other than Hefner, the late founder cum editor-in-chief of Playboy magazine. Hefner was deemed a contentious personality because of his views on multiple issues that brought him a lot of backlash. Then there was the docuseries Secrets of Playboy, which featured his former male and female employees and partners alleging him of sexual misconduct and manipulation, among other heinous crimes (via CNN).

To say the least, Hefner wasn’t really a personality that everyone looked up to and commended, especially for the conflicting views he held on women, which had people even terming him a womanizer who felt women only existed “to please men” (via The Los Angeles Times).

That said, of course, no one would expect any celebrity to want to embody such a controversial figure of their own accord and wishes. And yet, Cranston begs to differ.

Apparently, there have been discussions about Bryan Cranston being one of the fans’ choices to embody Hefner in a Playboy biopic that could, seemingly, actually bring the late celebrity’s controversy-surrounded life to light. Judging from his tremendous acting chops, the actor could even do a beyond-perfect job if cast in the role. This has us wondering – perhaps Cranston as Hefner could even outclass his role as White to become his most famous role!

Bryan Cranston’s Answer to Playing Hugh Hefner: “Yes”

During an appearance on an episode of British GQ’s Actually Me series, Cranston himself addressed the possibility of him being cast as Hefner and shared his perspective on the matter. This happened when he came across the question on Reddit by u/ChooChooBobby: Can Cranston play Hefner in a Playboy biopic? And, surprisingly enough, his answer to this question was a stunning “yes.”

Answering the question and presenting his own view on him playing Hugh Hefner, the Malcolm in the Middle star candidly said:

I’m looking at two pictures, one of me and one of Hugh [Hefner], and there is some similarities. So, I think the answer would be yes… And boy, the research would be fun.

That said, now that even Cranston himself has expressed that he is down to playing Hefner anytime, studios might as well get a Playboy biopic in the making and cast the fan-favorite Your Honor actor in it so he could break his own record of White being his most famous role to date!

Until then, you can stream Breaking Bad, which is currently available to view on Netflix.
