A young boy, barely a teenager, was allegedly caught with a gun at an Ajax hotel last week – despite being on probation and under a weapons prohibition order.

Durham Regional Police say officers responded to “an unknown trouble call” at a hotel near Westney Rd. S. and Bayly St. W. On Wednesday.
“Upon arrival, officers encountered a male armed with a knife and took him into custody without incident,” police said in a statement released Friday.
“During the investigation, officers received information that the suspect may have been in possession of a firearm,” police explained. “With the assistance of the DRPS K9 Unit, officers conducted a search of the property.”
“Investigators subsequently located and seized a firearm,” police added.

A 13-year-old Ajax boy, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was taken into custody.
“At the time of his arrest, the accused was bound by multiple release orders, including a weapons prohibition order,” police said.
The boy is charged with carrying a concealed weapon; unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm; possession of a loaded, restricted firearm; unauthorized possession of a prohibited device; two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace; three counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited; two counts of failure to comply with a release order; and four counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing.
