The 18-year-old, who was not identified, filed a police complaint alleging that a bar manager in Bangkok shaved her head over an unpaid bill of 60,000 Thai Baht (around $2,500), according to Bang Yi Khan Police, per the Bangkok Post.

The woman used a fake ID to enter the establishment in Arun Amarin-Pinklao on Aug. 25, where she ordered more than 200 drinks, according to the outlet.

Why the head shave?

She alleged to police that the manager and bar staff threatened violence before shaving her head.

The woman, however, was well-known for skipping out on bills at clubs and restaurants in the Pinklao area of the Thai capital, the Post reported, but she appeared to have messed with the wrong venue this time.

The manager reportedly had her sign a contract agreeing to chop her hair for 3,000 baht, and the locks would subsequently be donated.

Video of the alleged ordeal was also shared on social media.

Extreme reaction?

Chalida Phalamat of Thailand’s Pen Nueng Foundation, which advocates against child abuse, spoke out about the alleged incident in a Facebook post on Aug 27.

“A video has surfaced showing the manager of a host bar using clippers to shave a female customer’s head,” she wrote in the translated post. “After the shave, he took the woman to the police station and filed a report alleging she had consumed alcohol and refused to pay.”

Phalamat also questioned the bar’s explanation that the makeover was for a hair donation, noting the woman’s hair had already been cut short prior to the shave.

The young woman told authorities that she did not consent to have the footage shared on social media, per the outlets.

The mother later told police she was unaware that the staff would completely shave her daughter’s hair off, also alleging her daughter had signs of physical violence, including bruising, according to the Bangkok Post.

The bar manager denied the woman’s accusations of violence, per the Thai Examiner, insisting that she and her mother agreed to sell her hair instead of paying the bill.

However, he did admit his response was over the line, according to the outlet, and he later apologized.

Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) is investigating the incident.
