‘Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai’ Part 2 Ending Explained — Baki Was Always Going to Beat Musashi

3 days ago 12

Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai Part 2 finally gave us the fight everyone had been waiting for: Baki versus the living clone of Musashi Miyamoto, a swordsman who has many legends to his name. However, getting to the point of that fight wasn’t simple. In fact, as we know, Baki only cares about getting stronger than his father, yet the circumstances made him fight the sword demon.

If you just finished the season and you’re trying to piece together how it all wrapped up, here’s a full breakdown of what happened in the Baki-Dou Part 2 finale, and how Musashi finally went down for good.

The Search for Pickle Was Just a Distraction

In the first part of the anime, we saw Musashi’s fight with Yujiro get interrupted by Motobe, who was determined to protect everyone from Musashi. Soon afterward, Musashi heads into the sewers to meet Pickle, the prehistoric warrior from the age of dinosaurs.

Their fight does take place underground, but it ultimately serves as a setup for the real confrontation between Motobe and Musashi.

During the fight between Motobe and Miyamoto Musashi, it appeared that the latter was easily winning, until Motobe actually knocked out Musashi. It is an insane feat, considering how Miyamoto is probably as strong as Yujiro, the strongest man alive. Miyamoto Musashi admitted defeat.

The Police Force Itself Was Unable to Contain Musashi Miyamoto

When the police try to contain Musashi, not even bullets have any real effect on him. Even a current strong enough to kill an ordinary person only stuns him for a moment. Musashi, after all, comes from a time when his violent behavior would not have seemed unusual. He sees a beautiful moon and feels the urge to cut down more people, and that is exactly what he does.

In a single night, Musashi slaughters numerous police officers. Eventually, the authorities bring in Hanayama, hoping he might be able to stop him. However, Hanayama is defeated in front of everyone. Just as Musashi is about to finish him off with a final strike, Baki steps in and explains that this is not how things are done in the modern world. Soon after, the long-awaited fight between Baki and Musashi is set.

Baki Saw Musashi as a Person, Not a Threat

One thing about Baki is that he is a really well-written character. In many other anime, he might have rushed headfirst into the fight, or we might have gotten a long monologue with little action. Instead, in just a few words, Baki reveals that he sees Musashi as someone deeply lonely.

He was reincarnated in a modern world where killing in the name of a fair duel is a crime. Furthermore, no one took his consent for that either. In fact, he doesn’t have any family or friends in this modern era; hence, he is doing the only thing he knows: cutting.

Baki concludes that Musashi does not belong in this era and declares that he intends to kill him.

How Was Miyamoto Musashi Finally Defeated?

The final fight between Baki and Musashi draws a massive crowd, including Biscuit Oliva, who looks genuinely shaken just by Musashi’s presence in the arena. Baki himself feels as though he is being cut over and over again, even though Musashi never even draws his sword.

Baki refuses to fight Musashi while he is unarmed, so he first returns Musashi’s sword to him. Then he throws a second sword his way, and Musashi instinctively catches it without thinking. That is exactly what Baki wanted, because now both of Musashi’s hands are occupied with blades. It is a clever tactic, but it is not what ultimately ends the fight.

In the end, Sabuko Tokugawa is the one who finishes it by pulling Musashi’s soul out of his body. That said, it is worth noting that Baki appeared to be gaining the upper hand anyway. Musashi’s body is later taken back to the same lab where he was cloned, leaving the door open for his possible return in a future storyline.
