Surrey police are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a teen at Bear Creek Park last weekend.

Officers were called to the park shortly after 8:10 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report that a female youth had been assaulted, the Surrey Police Service said in a news release Wednesday.

The victim told police she was groped by a man who then fled the area. She provided investigators with a description of the suspect, but officers were unable to locate him after searching the park and surrounding areas.

Police have released photos of the suspect and are asking the public for help identifying him. He is described as South Asian, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and was wearing a blue Adidas toque, a black T-shirt, black pants and black flip-flops at the time of the incident.

One man injured in early-morning shooting in Surrey

One man was injured in an early-morning targeted shooting in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood Wednesday.

The Surrey Police Service says it happened shortly before 4 a.m. near a residence in the area of 60 Avenue and 177 Street.

Police say two people were shot at, with one sustaining minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. The shooters fled.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted but not extortion related.

A 19-year-old man is facing weapons charges after an incident in the Granville Entertainment District.

According to police, at around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday the man entered a store and allegedly knocked over tables, showed people a knife and began stabbing a store sign.

A man matching the suspect’s description was arrested soon after, two blocks away.

Noah Kawerninski, 19, is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
