“Announce the remasters”: Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Fans Are Demanding an Official Announcement From Crystal Dynamics After It Was Absent From Gamescom 2024

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver holds a special place in the hearts of long-time fans who have patiently waited for a revival of the series. Fans expected some form of announcement at Gamescom 2024 but there was none. 

The absence of any news regarding a remaster or remake has left them vocal and frustrated. The fan interest in remasters of the original games is at its peak. Especially after recent teases and leaks suggested a potential remaster of the original and its sequel. 

It’s Been So Long Since Soul Reaver And Fans Are Still Hyped For a Remaster

The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games have had a dedicated fanbase since their release in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The anticipation for a remaster has been building for years. But recently in July 2024, eagle-eyed fans at San Diego Comic-Con spotted branding for some potential remasters at a Dark Horse Comics booth. 

Crystal Dynamics has been stirring the pot recently with a successful Kickstarter campaign for a prequel graphic novel raising over $1 million. The campaign’s overwhelming success is a clear indication of the community’s passion.

Despite this, Crystal Dynamics has remained tight-lipped, neither confirming nor denying the existence of the remasters. This silence has left the community in a state of careful optimism as they prepare for what could be a huge announcement or a disappointment.

The lack of an announcement at Gamescom has only intensified these feelings.  The event is known for major gaming announcements and would’ve been the perfect platform for Crystal Dynamics to finally reveal the remastered titles. Instead, the opening night came and went without any news.

If There Really Is a Remaster, Fans Want to Know Now

The original titles in the Legacy of Kain series hold a special place in many gamers’ hearts. Directed by Amy Hennig, who later went on to create the Uncharted series, these games are celebrated by fans. The ability to shift between the material and spectral realms was a feature that set the original apart from other action-adventure titles of its time.

In 2022, Crystal Dynamics surveyed fan interest in a new Legacy of Kain game. The response was overwhelming, with over 100,000 fans expressing their desire for the series to continue. A remaster of these classics could also serve as a litmus test for the viability of future projects, including a possible sequel.

The success of recent remasters suggests that there is a strong market for these games right now. Crystal Dynamics and Embracer Group would be wise to capitalize on this opportunity.

The longer the wait, the louder the calls for the studio to “announce the remasters” become. In the end, the silence from the devs has only fueled the anticipation. The community has spoken, and the ball is now in the devs court.
