There was once a scenario that had Bryan Cranston and Colin Farrell featured on the same set. Back in 2012, a movie named Total Recall came out, a remake of the original film that was released in 1990. Farrel played the lead role, Carl Hauser while Cranston took on the role of “the bad guy” Chancellor Vilos Cohaagen.
The film wasn’t entirely a success as it lacked a lot of what made the 1990 release a success. But it was the start of a bond that Farrell and Cranston still cherish to this day. While the two are good friends, only one instance had Cranston question their entire friendship.
Bryan Cranston and Colin Farrell’s epic Total Recall fight scene gave the Breaking Bad actor pink eye
So by the end of Total Recall, a big fight scene conspires between Bryan Cranston and Colin Farrell’s characters which leads to the ending. Back in 2018, Cranston worked on another film called Isle of Dogs and while promoting the project, the 68-year-old was interviewed with RTE.
The Breaking Bad actor tried to explain his experience acting with Farrell before diving into what happened after filming the epic fight scene. He said,
We did the movie Total Recall and the fight sequence at the end of the movie was in a pool of water about 10 or 12 inches deep and we fought for two days in this thing
Cranston revealed that it was after that fight scene that he contracted an infection called pink eye. He suspects that he got it because of Farrell. The legendary actor added,
I got pink eye in both of my eyes. Now the only way you get pink eye is through, how should I say this, fecal matter that gets in your eye. Well, to this day I blame Colin Farrell for giving me pink eye. I don’t know what he was doing in that pool, but it wasn’t good.
Cranston may have suggested that Farrell made a slight mess on set, however, that’s not on us to assume.
Maybe one day Farrell would address it in the tabloids just to give fans some peace of mind.
Bryan Cranston has every intention to work with Colin Farrell in the future
During the same interview, Bryan Cranston was kind enough to share his true feelings on his former co-star, Colin Farrell. Despite the awkward situation that took place on the set of Total Recall, Cranston only had praise for Farrell,
I love that guy, he’s a great actor and a real good dude and I would love to do a movie with him [where] we don’t actually hate each other
Back in 2022, Farrell was cast as Oz Cobb for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. That led to the creation of HBO’s The Penguin, which made its debut not too long ago.
Farrell’s work on the limited series will most likely set the precedent for future Batman movies featuring Pattinson. But despite only releasing a single episode, it’s clear that Farrell’s Oz Cobb is going to be something to remember for years.
Hopefully one day we’ll get to see Cranston act alongside Farrell in an action-packed film. Perhaps a fusion of Breaking Bad and The Penguin.
Total Recall and The Penguin can be streamed on Paramount+ and HBO Max.
