While immigrants have higher fertility than native-born Canadians, the divide is shrinking and will likely continue to do so, the study suggests. That means “the way that our government is sustaining and growing the population (through immigration) is a short-term fix,” says one of the study’s authors.

Rebecca Luna, a mother of two who first noticed a cognitive drop at 46 and was diagnosed at 48, said she was rapidly declining and wanted to die before she couldn’t remember her family. The disease was taking her mind, her feelings and her connections, she said in a social media post days before her death.
