“Absolute disgrace”: Bruno Fernandes heavily criticised and “embarrassed” by Michael Carrick after miserable Man Utd loss

Jamie Carragher has launched a scathing onslaught connected Bruno Fernandes aft the Manchester United skipper appeared to criticise caput manager Michael Carrick pursuing Wednesday’s dense 4-1 Champions League decision to Como.

The Red Devils acceptable unwanted history successful Italy and Fernandes endured a nighttime to forget, with the out-of-sorts playmaker hooked disconnected successful the 67th infinitesimal by Carrick with the people astatine 3-0.

After the match, Fernandes seemingly questioned Carrick’s tactical approach, saying: "It was a determination from the unit to not property man-to-man and sometimes permission abstraction behind."

Carrick responded to those comments astatine his post-match property conference, adding: "Whatever strategy you play, immoderate tactics you play, if you don't run, and you don't tally forward, and you don't tally back, you aren't going to win."

Fernandes, 32, is the 2nd Man Utd subordinate wrong a week to marque a bold post-match connection aft Lisandro Martinez, who was captious of the club’s hierarchy pursuing a 2-0 decision to Atletico Madrid and has since issued a nationalist apology.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Martinez was incorrect to instrumentality purpose astatine Man United’s hierarchy, portion helium has heavy criticised Fernandes for his post-match comments aft being “embarrassed” by Carrick.

Fernandes “killing the remainder of the team” arsenic Carragher rips into Man Utd captain

Speaking arsenic a pundit for CBS Sports, Carragher said: "We said Lisandro Martinez was bang retired of bid past week for calling retired the hierarchy supra him. For Bruno Fernandes to bash that is simply a disgrace really.

"When you deliberation astir past season, helium got Player of the Year. That was connected the backmost of Michael Carrick becoming the manager. He wouldn't person got that grant without Michael Carrick, due to the fact that Michael Carrick enactment him backmost successful his rightful presumption and helium past went connected to person a fantastic play due to the fact that he's a talented footballer.

“But erstwhile you deliberation of him arsenic a footballer, he's a talent, but successful presumption of cognition and the mode helium goes astir things, it's not close astatine all.

"And he's reacted similar that due to the fact that he's been brought disconnected and he's been embarrassed contiguous by the manager arsenic helium brought him off, and erstwhile helium talks astir pressing, whether it's antheral to antheral oregon zonal, for years, Bruno Fernandes has meant Manchester United can't property due to the fact that helium does things for the crowd.

"I commentate connected games watching Man United and helium runs each implicit the spot similar a kid successful the schoolyard for the supporters. They each deliberation he's moving hard, he's not. He's sidesplitting the remainder of the squad doing it."

Carragher added: "Years ago, determination was a skipper called Bryan Robson, 1 of the top players to ever play for Man United due to the fact that helium played for the club, helium didn't propulsion the manager oregon the players nether the bus.

“He kept warring for Manchester United and watching him propulsion his arms up each week, perpetually successful a crippled is an implicit disgrace, calling the manager retired considering however he's performed this play connected the pitch. Awful cognition and not what a Manchester United skipper should do."

Fernandes an “absolute disgrace” – but Carrick “needs to beryllium changed now”

Asked astir Man United’s individuality and what absorption the nine is heading in, Carragher said: "Isn't it funny? How galore managers has Bruno Fernandes had? So each azygous manager astatine Manchester United doesn't person an identity?

“How galore managers are we connected present for Bruno Fernandes? Five? They alteration the manager each season... Manchester United is rotten from apical to bottom.

"I said earlier on, it's not astir the manager. It's everything astir the club, and who has got the answers? We remark connected it each the time, 'they mightiness request to alteration the manager oregon bash this, bash that.' Are we ever close really? Because nary 1 ever seems to get it right.

“There's nary uncertainty the manager needs to beryllium changed now. Right present this can't spell connected for a nine of the stature of Manchester United.

"But I'm gladsome Michael Carrick travel retired and conscionable said that astir Bruno Fernandes, that helium don't run, due to the fact that they don't run, this team.

"And what helium did past season, no-one's proclaiming Michael Carrick arsenic 1 of the top managers successful European football, but what helium did was helium travel and helped his ain shot nine past twelvemonth erstwhile helium was retired of enactment himself. He's travel successful and helium did amazing.

"And the crushed Manchester United are successful the Champions League is due to the fact that of Carrick, helium got them successful there. The crushed they got different £100m, £150m into the nine is due to the fact that helium got them in.

“No-one thought helium was going to get into the Champions League past season, truthful I consciousness for him a small bit. He loves the club, he's a legendary fig arsenic a player, but evidently it's not moving retired for him arsenic a manager and that needs to beryllium changed.

"But I'm delighted helium brought him off, Fernandes, and I'm delighted that helium had a small popular backmost determination successful the property due to the fact that that's what they request immoderate of those players."

Seeking to extremity a seven-match winless tally successful each competitions, Man United instrumentality to Premier League enactment connected Sunday erstwhile they invited Bournemouth to Old Trafford.
