Quebec provincial police say 23 men have been arrested in a major operation targeting child pornography.
The Sûreté du Québec says the men, between the ages of 26 and 73, have all appeared in court on charges related to the possession, distribution and downloading of images depicting the sexual abuse of children.
Police say seven of the men remain detained.
More than 160 officers from the SQ, as well as Montreal, Quebec City, Laval, Longueuil and Gatineau police were involved in the four-day operation and conducted 25 searches, the SQ says.
At least four million images depicting child sexual abuse were seized, police say, and four victims have been identified.
“The operation conducted this week is the result of serious collaboration and coordination. This unified approach by the different police forces strengthens efforts to fight online child sexual exploitation across the province,” Lt. Katherine Guimond, who heads the SQ division that investigates online child sexual exploitation, said in a news release.
