The Boys Season 5 is ready to end the show in one big bloodbath for Episode 8. After Frenchie’s tragic demise, the endgame is going to show us the final showdown against Homelander. Multiple character arcs have been established, particularly Butcher’s descent into villainy as he plans to eradicate all supes.
Season 5 of The Boys had Ryan Butcher appear intermittently, and we can expect him to show up for the finale as the Boys rally up all the supes they possibly can. Characters from Gen V have been brought into the field by Starlight, who will lead the final resistance against Homelander’s New World Order.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has deviated from the comics and taken certain liberties with the characters, giving us a semblance of how the show might end. Here are three of the most likely outcomes for The Boys Season 5.
| Title | The Boys |
| Showrunner | Eric Kripke |
| Seasons | 5 |
| IMDb score (overall) | 8.6/10 (as of May 14, 2026) |
| Rotten Tomatoes score (Season 5) (Tomatometer | Popcornmeter) | 97% | 69% (as of May 14, 2026) |

1 Homelander Stripped of Powers
Episode 7 of The Boys ended on a poignant note with Frenchie sacrificing himself to save Kimiko, who was recovering from radiation-induced weakness. The plan to give her Soldier Boy’s power-stripping abilities was claimed to be successful, making her an important frontline soldier in the war against Homelander.
Homelander’s V1 powers need to be stripped for him to be on relatively equal footing for battle. The immortal being has control over psychic supes and most of Vought’s regime, making this more of a one-sided battle. As such, the finale could see The Boys executing their plan to strip Homelander of his powers.
If Homelander’s powers are stripped away, there is a chance for the Boys to either keep him inside a Uranium chamber, where his powers will weaken continuously. The other option can be to put him into cryosleep, the way he did with Soldier Boy.
2 Butcher’s Genocidal Endgame
A still from The Boys | Prime VideoAssuming everything went according to plan and Homelander is no longer a threat, a new villain would emerge immediately. Butcher‘s goal to eradicate every single supe is still a threat that the Boys have sidestepped in the pursuit of stopping Homelander. Episode 7 of The Boys highlighted a significant character trait of Butcher’s.
He is the monster that everyone has made him out to be, with bloodlust glinting in his eye as he enjoys killing other supes. Despite Hughie wanting to believe there’s humanity in Butcher, the show has established the monstrous side of the character repeatedly in Season 5.
The outcome of Butcher using the supe-killing virus on every single supe is genocide on a global scale, killing the heroes and even innocent supes who do not have V1 injected in their systems. Undoubtedly, this is a plausible scenario in the absence of Homelander.
3 Starlight Leads a New Renaissance
A still from The Boys | Prime VideoThe Boys might see a softer ending if Butcher and Homelander are stopped. There is no denying we will see casualties on a scale never seen before in the show, but the comics have shown that Hughie and Starlight make it out of the battle alive. Hughie has remained a source of optimism for Starlight in Season 5 of The Boys, making him integral for the supe.
Starlight has already started a resistance against Vought, and the finale will see her rallying up every Starlighter she can reach out to. After the inevitable chaos, if Starlight makes it out alive, she will usher in a new era.
With a horde of supes who believe that Starlight is fighting for the good of mankind, the remaining ones who make it out alive will join her in establishing a new system. This new renaissance will disband Vought immediately, ending the show on a relatively positive note.
Here is a summary of the outcomes discussed.
| Homelander Stripped of Powers | Kimiko removes his powers; he is then trapped in a Uranium chamber or cryosleep. |
| Butcher’s Genocidal Endgame | Butcher becomes the ultimate villain and unleashes a virus to wipe out all supes globally. |
| Starlight Leads a New Renaissance | Starlight and Hughie survive to completely disband Vought and build a positive new era. |
The Boys Season 5 finale is guaranteed to have a lot of action and pivotal character arcs tied up. We don’t know the extent to which the showrunner will remain faithful to the comics, and we hope that years of building up the Homelander showdown will deliver a great finale.
Here are some commonly asked questions about the finale.
Will Hughie have to kill Butcher?
In the original comics, Hughie is forced to step up and stop an unhinged Butcher from eradicating all Supes.
Where do Ryan’s loyalties truly lie?
Ryan could be the key to defeating Homelander, or he could fully embrace his dark lineage.
