3 Best Movies to Stream on Prime Video This Weekend (Sept. 19-20)

September has been a busy month for Prime Video. The Reacher spin-off Neagley just dropped all eight episodes, The Grand Tour is back with a brand-new trio of hosts, and the Lili Reinhart rom-com The Love Hypothesis arrives on September 23. Horror fans can also dig into both Carrie films ahead of Mike Flanagan’s new series.

But if you only have time for a movie or two this weekend, the options can feel endless. So, we have gone through the recent library and done the hard work for you. These are our three picks, each offering a completely different mood.

1 Chef Is the Ultimate Feel-Good Comfort Watch

Jon Favreau wrote, directed, and starred in Chef, and it might be the warmest movie he has ever made. He plays Carl Casper, a talented chef who loses his job after a public meltdown at a food critic goes viral.

With his career in pieces, Carl buys a beat-up food truck and hits the road with his young son and his loyal friend, played by John Leguizamo. What makes Chef so special is how simple it is.

It is a story about a dad reconnecting with his kid, a man falling back in love with his craft, and a whole lot of mouth-watering Cuban sandwiches. We also get appearances from Sofía Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr. This is the perfect lazy Saturday movie that you may not want to watch on an empty stomach.

2 Weapons Delivers the Scariest Mystery of the Decade

If you want something that will keep you up at night, Weapons is the pick. Zach Cregger‘s hit horror film opens with a chilling hook. One night at exactly 2:17 a.m., 17 kids from the same classroom walk out of their homes and vanish. Only one child is left behind.

The film tells its story through different characters, including the class teacher, played by Julia Garner, and a grieving father, played by Josh Brolin. Each chapter adds a new piece to the puzzle, and the payoff is equal parts terrifying and darkly funny.

Then there is Amy Madigan as Aunt Gladys, a performance so unforgettable that it earned her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress earlier this year. The timing could not be better, either. Cregger’s Resident Evil just hit theaters, making this the perfect weekend to catch up on the film that made him a horror heavyweight.

3 Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Packs a Massive Emotional Punch

Prime Video just added the first four seasons of Demon Slayer along with Mugen Train, and the movie alone is worth your weekend. Picking up right after the first season, it follows Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke as they board a mysterious train where passengers keep disappearing.

The Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku, joins them, becoming one of the most loved characters in the entire series. The villain traps everyone inside their happiest dreams, which leads to some of the most emotional moments in the franchise.

The animation is breathtaking, and the final battle is pure adrenaline. By the time the credits roll, you will understand why Rengoku left such a huge mark on fans. It is also the perfect entry point for newcomers. And if you get hooked, the rest of the series is waiting right there on Prime Video.
