The times are terrible, and Supergirl, 2026’s worst movie, just beat the recently released action/adventure flick, Street Fighter, in terms of box-office numbers. Despite the latter being more anticipated, Street Fighter had its fill of the opening weekend collections and, according to a tweet, managed to earn $51 million during the weekend.
With the movie being released on October 16, the three-day earnings of the film came down to $51 million, a total of $17 million less than that of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Supergirl. The Milly Alcock movie managed to gather a total of $68 million during its opening weekend (via Box Office Mojo) and was able to beat Street Fighter… after its theatrical run ended!

The 2026 action film earned a total of $31 million domestically and $20 million internationally, and yet fell short of beating Supergirl. Despite the setback, the film’s $31 million domestic collection is still greater than the previous two installments… combined.
Street Fighter‘s Collection Is Still Highest In the Franchise
A still from Street Fighter | Credits: Legendary PicturesDespite only earning $51 million on opening weekend, the 2026 Street Fighter is still better than its predecessors, which barely managed to have a good opening weekend with their releases.
Per The Numbers, the first film, called Street Fighter, which was released in 1994, had an opening weekend of $9.5 million. The film did have pretty decent reviews, starred Jean-Claude Van Damme in the lead role, and went on to earn a total of $99.4 million at the worldwide box office.
The second film, titled Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, was a disaster when it came out in 2009. Earning only $4.7 million during its opening weekend, the 2009 film is considered the lowest point of the franchise. In fact, the worldwide box office collection of The Legend of Chun-Li came to $12.6 million. The combined domestic opening weekend of both movies is still less than what the 2026 reboot earned with its domestic opening weekend (adjusted or unadjusted for inflation).
Naturally, the film currently has the highest domestic opening weekend in the franchise. But losing to Supergirl is a pretty bad thing, since the number of lows that the DCU film hit, Street Fighter just hit harder.
Supergirl‘s Box Office Collection Seems Better After Street Fighter Fall
A still from Supergirl | Credits: DC StudiosBack when Supergirl was released, it opened to a domestic opening of $37.1 million (via The Numbers). This was even below the domestic opening of Joker: Folie à Deux, which is one of the most infamous flops in recent memory.
In fact, Supergirl‘s second weekend brought a 74% collapse with earnings of $9.6 million (a steeper fall than The Flash or even Morbius). Throughout two weekends, the film managed to gross a total of $100.5 million worldwide against a reported budget of $170 million.
Naturally, every obstacle that Supergirl faced during its opening weekends, Street Fighter had it worse. The film had a lower opening compared to Joker: Folie à Deux. Although it hasn’t received a staggering fall like Supergirl, fans are keeping a keen eye on the box office track of the 2026 action film.
