If you have ever watched Naruto, you might have thought at least once, what if Sasuke Uchiha were the one who got the abilities of Kurama instead of Naruto Uzumaki? Yeah, it is one of those “what-if” scenarios that basically changes the entire narrative. On one side, we have a loud, chaotic, ramen-loving underdog, and on the other end, we have a cold, calculated genius – both are meant for greatness, but their path could have been a lot more different.
As we are all aware, being a Jinchuriki in Masashi Kishimoto‘s series is not just about the raw power. Rather, the story makes it clear that it takes compatibility, control, mental strength, and, more importantly, how you decide to deal with the monster living inside you. When we see Naruto’s journey, it is all about earning Kurama’s trust. Because honestly, Kurama was not just a source of power – he was a walking disaster. However, Sasuke might not have needed that emotional route at all. So the big question now – would Sasuke actually have been a better Jinchuriki then? Let us explore it in detail, because the answer might surprise you.

10 Sasuke Had Superior Chakra Control From Childhood
Young Naruto and Sasuke. | Credit: Studio PierrotSasuke was talented from the beginning. While Naruto often struggled with basic techniques, Sasuke had long since surpassed his peers by being able to master advanced techniques as a child. When it comes to being a Jinchuriki, one of the most important things is controlling chakra. Sasuke had a major advantage in this skill set.
Naruto’s early days of struggling with his chakra flow showed how unstable his flow was, especially with Kurama interfering. Sasuke, on the other hand, had precise chakra control – his chakra was not just powerful, it was refined. These differences matter a lot when you are trying to control a massive beast capable of destroying mountains with a single flick of its tail.
Think of it like driving a high-performance car. Naruto would have needed to learn how to drive while on the highway at full speed, whereas Sasuke would have learned how to handle the car’s functions before applying pressure to the gas pedal. Thus, the amount of training and discipline demonstrated by Sasuke would have resulted in far fewer chaotic control issues while handling Kurama.
9 Sharingan Could Suppress Kurama More Easily

The Uchiha clan has a historical bond with the tailed beasts, and we have already seen how powerful that connection can be. The Sharingan not only copies jutsu, but also has the ability to restrain or control the tailed beasts.
An example of this is when Sasuke briefly suppressed Kurama’s chakra inside Naruto during their early encounter in Shippuden. This was a really important moment, because it shows that Sasuke did not have to wait years to create a relationship with Kurama before he could contain him immediately.
Had Sasuke been the Jinchuriki, Kurama would not have had the same degree of freedom to cause chaos. The dynamic would have been entirely different. Kurama would not have had the opportunity to break free from Sasuke’s restraint and would have been used as a weapon instead of a companion.
8 Emotional Control Could Prevent Kurama Rampages
Kurama is talking to Naruto. | Credit: Studio PierrotNaruto’s biggest flaw when he was younger was his emotions. Whenever he became angry or overwhelmed, Kurama’s chakra would leak out and cause havoc. In contrast, Sasuke Uchiha has shown that he can control his emotions – or at least suppress them.
Even when Sasuke is experiencing intense post-trauma, he does not explode emotionally as Naruto does. Sasuke’s emotion, whether it is anger or sadness, just quietly rages inside him – it does not become raw like Naruto’s emotion. This is very important since Naruto has a tailed beast that feeds off of negative emotion.
If Sasuke possessed Kurama, then chances are he would not have had the previous rampages to deal with. He most certainly would not lose his control of Kurama’s chakra – instead, he would be able to use it with precision. It is like comparing a wildfire to a controlled burn – both are powerful, but only one is predictable.
7 Sasuke’s Tactical Mindset Beats Naruto’s Instincts
The showdown at the Valley of the End. | Credit: Studio PierrotNaruto fights on instinct while Sasuke fights using strategy – that is the most basic way to look at it. Naruto tends to rely on improvisation and strong determination when fighting, whereas Sasuke approaches fights as if they are chess games, where every action is predetermined, and every decision is deliberate.
Using that thought process, along with the power of a tailed beast, could yield dangerously effective outcomes. Think of Sasuke using Kurama’s chakra purposefully, not only as a last resort but as part of his combat strategy by carefully incorporating it into an overall plan? It would maximize his effectiveness without wasting any energy.
6 Sasuke’s Darkness Matches Kurama’s Nature Better

Sasuke’s darkness, especially during his rogue ninja phase, aligns much more closely with Kurama’s nature. The two would likely resonate with each other better, not necessarily in emotional ways (like Naruto), but through their shared experience of fighting for their own.
5 Sasuke Could Unlock Kurama’s Power Much Faster
Naruto’s Six-Tailed form against Pain. | Credits: Studio PierrotIt took Naruto ages to finally achieve all of Kurama’s powers. Along the way, he encountered all kinds of things – training arcs and near-death experiences, as well as many emotional breakthroughs. His journey was incredibly long. When it comes to powering up, Sasuke is much faster than Naruto.
Sasuke does not hesitate; he does not have the same doubts as Naruto does. In fact, if anything, Sasuke would push himself to gain access to Kurama’s powers as soon as possible. With his natural gifts and the Sharingan, he would be able to master these powers much faster than Naruto.
4 Genjutsu Mastery Protects Against Kurama’s Influence

Kurama was always trying to manipulate Naruto through his feelings and to take control over him completely. That dynamic of the relationship would change dramatically due to Sasuke’s ability to use genjutsu.
Genjutsu is not only about holding your opponent in a trap – it can be about taking over your opponent’s mind as well. Sasuke would probably use his genjutsu to suppress Kurama’s consciousness, preventing any internal struggle from even happening.
3 Indra’s Chakra Gives Sasuke Better Compatibility
Ashura and Indra. | Credit: Studio PierrotSasuke is the reincarnation of Indra, the son of the Sage of Six Paths. Indra’s chakra is more aligned with power, control, and dominance, which fits perfectly with the nature of tailed beasts. Naruto, as Ashura’s reincarnation, embodies connection and cooperation; therefore, he had to make friends with Kurama.
Sasuke, on the other hand, would be able to dominate and control Kurama. The difference in their approach stems from their very existence and shows the fundamental difference in how they approach the world.
2 Sasuke Would Use Kurama’s Power Without Hesitation
Kurama from Shippuden. | Credit: Studio PierrotAt the beginning of the series, Naruto’s reluctance to tap into Kurama’s power was mainly due to the fear that he would risk hurting those around him or losing control completely. Sasuke, on the other hand, is not hesitant about acquiring power – instead takes what he wants with little or no hesitation. This type of ruthless efficiency would allow him to completely utilize Kurama’s powers without restraint.
However, there is a darker side to this approach – would Sasuke go too far? Because while hesitation can be a weakness, it can also be a safeguard.

Now here comes the biggest argument of all – and honestly, it is hard to ignore. During the final arc, Sasuke didn’t just have one tailed beast under his control – he had multiple tailed beasts under his control.
Sasuke was able to control all of the nine tailed beasts simultaneously by using his Rinnegan. Just think about that for a minute! Naruto took years to form a bond with Kurama, while Sasuke takes control of all of the tailed beasts within a matter of moments. If that does not prove his capability as a Jinchuriki, then we don’t know what else would.
So now coming to our main question – would Sasuke have been a better Jinchuriki than Naruto? Honestly, if we see from purely technical ability, the answer is probably yes. However, the big difference is that Naruto’s power came through his ability to connect with others. He did not use Kurama, but rather created a deep bond with him, something Sasuke may never have achieved. That bond is what sets Naruto apart.
Ultimately, it is not simply about who has more power – rather, it is about how to use that power, as well as what type of power one chooses to use.
Could Sasuke control Kurama better than Naruto?
Based on his abilities and also because he was able to control other beasts as well, Sasuke could have controlled Kurama more efficiently than Naruto.
Why didn’t Sasuke become a Jinchuriki?
The story was built around Naruto and his struggle to find acceptance. While Sasuke’s story was more focused on revenge and redemption than on achieving inner peace with a tailed beast.
Would Sasuke and Kurama get along?
Probably not in the same emotional way as Naruto. Their relationship would likely be based on control rather than friendship.
Who is stronger overall, Naruto or Sasuke?
They are portrayed as equals by the end of the series, each representing different philosophies of power.
So our question to you now is, do you also feel that Sasuke could truly master Kurama better than Naruto, or would his darkness consume everything instead? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
