10 Shows to Watch If You Enjoyed Your Friends & Neighbors

Your Friends & Neighbors just ended its second season, with Coop closing out yet another chapter of regrets and redemption. Leading a life of crime isn’t easy, and no matter how many times he tries to escape it, the world keeps pulling him back in. The premise of ordinary people turning to crime isn’t new, but Apple TV did a great job of transforming a suburban dad’s downfall into a compelling soap opera.

This list highlights other shows in a similar vein, helping fill the gap left by Your Friends & Neighbors. There’s a good chance you’ve heard of some of these series but never got around to watching them, so here’s your opportunity to dive into another set of stories about dysfunctional families and the various shenanigans they get up to in order to protect the image they’ve built.

1 Beef (2023-)

Netflix’s dark comedy anthology is a great watch for people who want more of the social satire found in Jon Hamm’s show. Seasons 1 and 2 of Beef tell very different stories, but what remains thematically consistent is how much damage ordinary people can cause. Much like Your Friends & Neighbors, the series does a strong job of showing privileged people ruin their lives as bad decisions continually escalate into criminal territory. Mike White’s The White Lotus is the quintessential “eat the rich” series, another anthology set around the world in which wealthy people find themselves in situations that turn their lives upside down. After Your Friends & Neighbors, this series should satisfy your craving for soap-opera drama, with a rotating ensemble that is guaranteed to entertain.

3 Big Little Lies (2017 – Present)

Centered around affluent Californian mothers, Big Little Lies is all about maintaining a perfect image within a community. A perfect companion to Your Friends & Neighbors, it’s interesting to watch how these mothers conceal bad behavior to protect their carefully constructed bubble. Jason Bateman’s Ozark is a great example of the dysfunction within a family that turns to crime. Much like Coop, the family must maintain appearances while leading a double life of criminal activity.

The gold standard for stories about rich people and the unbelievable things they do is HBO’s Succession. This dark comedy follows the Roy family as they grovel for money and power, creating an ecosystem much like the one in Your Friends & Neighbors. Coop will do anything to hold onto his status despite his life falling apart, and the Roys are no different, damaging everything and everyone around them in their pursuit of success. Bloodline is a family drama set in the Florida Keys, where a prodigal son’s return exposes a series of buried secrets. While Coop ventures into crime, the Rose family tries to rebuild their lives while desperately clinging to the status and sensibilities of their former world.
