The Bleach powerscaling ladder is already broken as it is with the Shikai release from the Zanpakuto, but the concept of Bankai takes it one step further. Bankai is the most powerful release by a Soul Reaper that serves as the final attack against their opponents.
While some Bankai are inherently strong and deal close-range damage, like Kenpachi Zaraki’s unnamed release from the manga and Ichigo’s Tensa Zangetsu, more than half of the revealed releases actually have long-range attack distances. If you are wondering what those are, here is a ranked list of the most powerful long-range releases from the anime series.
| TITLE | Bleach |
| CREATOR | Tite Kubo |
| RELEASE DATE | October 5, 2004 |
| IMDb RATING (As of June 3, 2026) | 8.2/10 |
| WHERE TO WATCH | Hulu (US) and Disney+ (International) |
10 Sajin Komamura – Kokujo Tengen Myo’o: Dangai Joe
Distance: Short–Mid Range (30–100 meters)
Sajin’s Kokujo Tengen Myo’o: Dangai Joe from Bleach | Credits: PierrotWhile Sajin Komamura’s Kokujo Tengen Myo’o is already a large-scale attack, he took a step further in the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War series. After sacrificing his heart through the Humanization Technique, Komamura gained an immortal humanized version of Kokujo Tengen Myo’o.
In retrospect, the shape and size of his Zanpakuto release remain the same as before – but the power changes drastically. The giant Bankai can strike targets hundreds of meters away simply due to its colossal size, giving it more reach than most melee releases.
9 Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto – Zanka no Tachi
Distance: Close combat with massive environmental influence
Yamamoto’s Zanka no Tachi from Bleach | Credits: PierrotThis was one of the most epic displays of Bankai in the Bleach TYBW series. While it might not inherently fit into the long-range category, the environmental influence is pretty much why it deserves a mention on this list. Zanka no Tachi compresses all of the Gotei 13’s former Captain Commander Yamamoto‘s flames into his sword and then releases them in four different types of attacks, named after the four directions.
East concentrates heat into the blade’s edge, West surrounds Yamamoto with heat reaching 15 million degrees, South summons the charred dead as an army, and North releases a devastating slash of condensed flames. All these abilities are mainly close or mid-range attacks, but the aftereffects spread far.
8 Shunsui Kyoraku – Katen Kyokotsu: Karamatsu Shinju
Distance: Wide AoE (Exact radius unknown)
Shunsui’s Katen Kyokotsu: Karamatsu Shinju from Bleach | Credits: PierrotInstead of a long-distance, Katen Kyokotsu: Karamatsu Shinju spreads across the battlefield in a large AoE. This was derivable because Shunsui waited for Ichigo and the others to move far away before activating his Bankai. However, no canon data on the exact radius and range of the Zanpakuto release has been mentioned.
When activated, Shunsui Kyoraku‘s Zanpakuto release spreads its effects over a large surrounding area and drags everyone within that area into its four-act tragedy – everyone within the range shares pain and enacts the story of a tragic theater play reality, based on a double suicide of two lovers.
7 Shinji Hirako – Sakashima Yokoshima Happofusagari
Distance: Large battlefield radius
Shinji’s Sakashima Yokoshima Happofusagari from Bleach | Credits: PierrotIf you are a Naruto fan, and specifically a fan of Genjutsu, Shinji Hirako’s Sakashima Yokoshima Happofusagari does exactly that. His Zanpakuto release affects everyone within its area of influence and reverses their perception of friend and foe – causing enemies to kill each other.
While we don’t know an exact measurement of his release’s range, we know that it was wide enough to cover major parts of an entire battlefield, trapping an entire army of low-ranked Quincy and forcing them to kill themselves while he sat and enjoyed the show.
6 Mayuri Kurotsuchi – Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo: Matai Fukuin Shotai
Distance: Variable / Battlefield-scale
Mayuri’s Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo: Matai Fukuin Shotai from Bleach | Credits: PierrotMayuri Kurotsuchi’s Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo: Matai Fukuin Shotai isn’t actually his original Bankai; it’s a modified version he used against one of the strongest Bleach characters, Pernida Parnkgjas. The modified release adapts to its opponent and can release specialized biological agents. It is enormous and can affect a sizable battlefield, but it remains physically near Mayuri.
Although Mayuri’s Zanpakuto release is more of an AoE than a long-range attack, the manifested puppet itself covers a large area and can even be adjusted based on the battlefield.
5 Toshiro Hitsugaya – Daiguren Hyorinmaru
Distance: Hundreds of meters+ range
Toshiro’s Daiguren Hyorinmaru from Bleach | Credits: PierrotWhile this is yet another instance where we don’t really get to see a databook specification for the actual range and distance of his Bankai’s effect, Toshiro Hitsugaya’s Daiguren Hyorinmaru definitely deserves to be on this list.
His Zanpakuto release can be adjusted as he wishes and has both AoE and long-range applications. Against Gerard Valkyrie, adult Toshiro demonstrates some of the largest battlefield-scale freezing feats seen from a captain-class Bankai.
4 Byakuya Kuchiki – Senbonzakura Kageyoshi
Distance: Mid–Long Range (100–300 meters)
Byakuya’s Senbonzakura Kageyoshi from Bleach | Credits: PierrotByakuya Kuchiki‘s Senbonzakura Kageyoshi is one of the earliest examples of a long-range Zanpakuto release in the series. Unlike many Bankai that create a large area of effect around the user, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi consists of countless blades that can be sent far away from Byakuya and controlled remotely.
Since we have an effective range for the release, it easily moves over Toshiro’s Bankai. However, in our opinion, Toshiro likely has a bigger range, but is only below Byakuya because of the lack of canon data.
3 Soi Fon – Jakuho Raikoben
Distance: Long Range (Kilometer-class missile)
Soi Fon’s Jakuho Raikoben from Bleach | Credits: PierrotUnlike Bankai like Katen Kyokotsu, and Sakashima Yokoshima Happofusagari that mainly have a more AoE spread than distance impact, Soi Fon’s Jakuho Raikoben is literally meant to be a long-range missile attack. The Bankai was created specifically to compensate for Soi Fon’s close-range assassination style by giving her overwhelming ranged firepower.
While we don’t have a specific range we can narrow down to, the description and intent of the Zanpakuto release are pretty much self-explanatory and reason enough for its high position on this list.
2 Gin Ichimaru – Kamishini no Yari
Distance: 13 km, as Gin claimed in the anime series (Debatable)
Gin’s Kamishini no Yari from Bleach | Credits: PierrotThe distance on Gin Ichimaru’s Bankai is pretty specific, as he himself mentioned while fighting Ichigo – 13 kilometers – the highest long-distance Zanpakuto release recorded in the Bleach series so far. But what if we said that that’s also a lie? Gin later reveals to Aizen that he lied about the speed and size of his Bankai, but didn’t specify the corrected metrics.
Even if the measurement stands at a lie, it is undeniable that his reach is, in fact, far greater than many other Zanpakuto releases. Kamishini no Yari actually physically travels enormous distances, as Gin was able to slice an entire town within mere seconds.
1 Ichibe Hyosube – Shirafude Ichimonji
Distance: Large-scale / Conceptual range
Ichibe’s Shirafude Ichimonji from Bleach | Credits: Studio PierrotDespite the range yet again being unrecorded, there is no doubt that the Shirafude Ichimonji is the highest in terms of both AoE spread and long-range attacks. The Zanpakuto release existed even before the term “Bankai” was coined, and that also by Ichibe Hyosube himself.
Against Yhwach, Ichibe spreads ink across a huge battlefield and attacks from a considerable range. His Bankai clearly functions well beyond normal sword-combat distance. Based on the mechanics of his attacks, we would have to guess on a reality-spread scale for the estimated distance and range.
| RANKING | BANKAI | USER |
| 1 | Shirafude Ichimonji | Ichibe Hyosube |
| 2 | Kamishini no Yari | Gin Ichimaru |
| 3 | Jakuho Raikoben | Soi Fon |
| 4 | Senbonzakura Kageyoshi | Byakuya Kuchiki |
| 5 | Daiguren Hyorinmaru | Toshiro Hitsugaya |
| 6 | Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo: Matai Fukuin Shotai | Mayuri Kurotsuchi |
| 7 | Sakashima Yokoshima Happofusagari | Shinji Hirako |
| 8 | Katen Kyokotsu: Karamatsu Shinju | Shunsui Kyoraku |
| 9 | Zanka no Tachi | Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto |
| 10 | Kokujo Tengen Myo’o: Dangai Joe | Sajin Komamura |
