In Jujutsu Kaisen, Mahoraga is the strongest Shikigami and is a part of the Ten Shadows Technique. What makes this shikigami so strong is its ability to adapt to any and every phenomenon. This sounds extremely broken on paper; however, we’ve seen even Sukuna killing Mahoraga at 75% of this strength.
In the vast world of anime, many characters exist who can adapt better than Mahoraga in various ways. Let’s explore ten such characters from various anime, ranking them on the basis of how much better they are than Mahoraga. Let’s dive in.
10 Berserker Heracles’s God Hand Makes Him Superior to Mahoraga
Berserker from Fate/Stay Night Heaven’s Feel | Credit: UfotableBerserker in Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works has an ability called the God Hand. This ability allows him to take any fatal blow and resurrect instantly. After the resurrection, his body adapts to the exact method of his death. Which means, he cannot be killed by the same attack twice in a row. This is a lot like Mahoraga’s adaptation.
However, one major difference is that if Mahoraga is actually killed in a single attack, he won’t come back. Mahoraga needs to survive the attacks in order to adapt to them. On the other hand, even if Berserker dies, he will come back to life and simply refuse to die with that attack ever again.
It is a question that we can ponder over if God Hand would see the Cursed Energy as one whole thing that killed Berserker, because in that case, Berserker would absolutely annihilate not just Mahoraga, but everyone in the franchise.
9 Accelerator’s Adaptation Is Much Faster Than Mahoraga
Accelerator from A Certain Magical Index III | Credit: J.C. StaffAccelerator from A Certain Magical Index has the ability to control vectors. A vector is just displacement over time, so fundamentally, he possesses a lot of control over space and time. Furthermore, his ability applies to conceptual things as well, since we saw him reflect magic in the anime. In fact, he doesn’t even need to think about it; if there is something that can harm Accelerator’s body, it will be reflected off of him.
This is superior to Mahoraga’s adaptation because Accelerator doesn’t have to experience the attack or even die like Berserker. Accelerator will simply reflect any and every attack off of him. Furthermore, since cursed energy exists as a thing instead of being a simple concept in the anime, no attack would work on him to begin with.
8 Adam’s Divine Replication Allows Him to Replicate Anything
Adam from Record of Ragnarok | Credit: GraphinicaAdam from Record of Ragnarok possesses an adaptation ability that allows him to perfectly copy and counter any technique he observes, including divine abilities used by gods. He does not just copy the move. He adapts his own biology to replicate the exact elements required to use the technique, often returning the attack faster and with more force.
What this means is that Adam doesn’t even need to be hit by an attack; he can simply see it being used and copy it. However, he does rank low because if he doesn’t get to see what hit him, he too can be theoretically killed. In Record of Ragnarok, Adam went toe-to-toe against Zeus with the Divine Replication ability.
7 Meruem Is an Evolutionary Freak of Adaptation
Meruem from Hunter x Hunter | Credit: MadhouseMeruem from Hunter x Hunter relies on infinite cognitive evolution and his Nen ability, Aura Synthesis. When faced with an unblockable defense, like Netero’s 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, Meruem does not wait for his body to passively develop physical immunity. Instead, his intellect continuously evolves, adapting and perfectly predicting his opponent.
Furthermore, his Aura Synthesis provides permanent ongoing evolutionary adaptation by absorbing the raw power and abilities of those he consumes. As such, he can scale his powers before the combat even begins. However, he sits at number seven on this list because his body can still fail. But at the same time, his continuous, cumulative evolution and ability to adapt his mind to infinite variables are far superior to Mahoraga’s adaptation.
6 Gerard Valkyrie’s the Miracle Surpasses Mahoraga’s Adaptation
Gerard Valkyrie from Bleach | Credit: Studio PierrotGerard Valkyrie from Bleach utilizes an ability called M: The Miracle. Valkyrie’s Schrift, as the name suggests, can make the impossible possible. If the user is killed, he resurrects immediately, and then he gains increased power and immunity to the thing that destroyed him. This is a lot like Berserker and Mahoraga’s ability, except for the fact that, unlike Berserker, there is no limit.
Mahoraga’s weakness remains the fact that he can be killed in a single big attack, but that is not the case for Gerard Valkyrie. You cannot kill him because that is exactly what would trigger the adaptation. However, he can still be killed if his Halo is destroyed, which in turn would erase his powers.
5 Saitama Simply Keeps Growing Stronger
Saitama from One Punch Man | Credit: MadhouseSaitama from One Punch Man is one of the strongest characters in all anime of all time. He started off as a weak nobody who gradually gained power to the point of erasing galaxies from existence with a single sneeze. His power adapts in real time when faced with an opponent who survives his initial strikes. So, unlike the ones before him in this ranking, Saitama doesn’t even need to get hit. He is the one doing the hitting.
His adaptation is purely statistical. He simply hits harder, moves faster, and becomes more durable by the second. This is so simple and so powerful that Mahoraga cannot even be compared. A simple sneeze would be enough to erase Mahoraga from existence. And if Mahoraga somehow did survive, Saitama would grow stronger that very instant.
Saitama ranks fifth because his adaptation requires no trigger. He has no known limits, and his baseline power is strong enough to make him rank this high. However, it is not known if he can adapt to conceptual attacks as well, which holds him back on the 5th rank.
4 Moro Is Not Limited to a Vessel Like Mahoraga
Moro from Dragon Ball Super | Credit: Toei AnimationMoro from Dragon Ball Super utilizes assimilative morphology and data integration. It sounds complicated; however, what it means is that he bypasses the trial-by-damage phase Mahoraga relies on. By using Seven-Three’s data integration, Moro acquires the peak biological and magical traits of an opponent instantly by simply touching the back of their neck.
Furthermore, when his body fails, he fuses his consciousness and energy network with a planet. Mahoraga is rigidly bound to a singular, humanoid physical manifestation. If that vessel is vaporized instantly, the adaptation fails, but that is not the case with Moro at all.
3 Rimuru Tempest’s Omniscient Computation Works in an Instant

Rimuru Tempest, who is one of the strongest characters in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, possesses an internal computational core named Ciel. This core analyzes any incoming magic, physical attack, or conceptual law instantaneously, formulating immunities and countermeasures in that very instant. So, Rimuru adapts before the attack even reaches him, something that is far superior to anyone before him in this ranking.
Mahoraga’s adaptation requires physical contact with the attack, survival, and then he has to wait for the wheel on his head to rotate as well. Meanwhile, Rimuru’s cognitive adaptation is instantaneous. He skips the damage phase entirely.
2 Medaka Kurokami Can Be 120% Better Than Mahoraga
Medaka and Unzen from Medaka Box | Credit: GainaxMedaka Kurokami from Medaka Box uses a conceptual skill appropriation ability called The End. This allows her to instantly copy any supernatural or physical ability she observes or even hears about. Simply speaking, she is a genius.
She then adapts her own body to utilize it at 120% efficiency. Medaka does not need to be physically struck by an attack to initiate her adaptation. Simply witnessing a technique is sufficient to permanently add it to her arsenal. She ranks this high because she could simply look at Mahoraga and be better than him in that very instant.
1 Yhwach’s Temporal Nullification Works Before Events Even Happen
Yhwach from Bleach | Credit: Studio Pierrot Yhwach from Bleach: Thousand-year Blood War possesses the ultimate form of adaptation through The Almighty, a power that allows him to observe all possible future timelines at the same time. Any power or attack he sees in any future timeline is instantly understood. Once understood, it becomes permanently incapable of harming him or being used to defeat him.
This is the most broken adaptation ability in this ranking; the attack may never even happen to begin with, yet the user has already adapted. Yhwach would simply see a future where he encounters Mahoraga, and will have already adapted by the time that future occurs.
