X-Men Casts The Boys Star as Fan-Favorite Winged Mutant

Marvel’s X-Men reboot has a new addition to its casting roster. Asa Germann, popular for his role in Gen V, has joined the mutant team. He will play the fan-favorite mutant hero, Angel, later known as Archangel. Germann is no stranger to superheroes, as he earned quite the recognition for starring as Sam Riordan in Gen V, which is a spinoff of The Boys. The series was canceled in April this year just after two seasons.

Meanwhile, the casting lineup for the new X-Men movie is looking impressive, with Christopher Abbott, Adam Driver, Sadie Sink, and Samara Weaving joining the team.

Gen V Star Asa Germann Lands Major X-Men Role

Deadline has confirmed that Asa Germann is the new Angel in the upcoming X-Men movie. The character made his screen debut in X-Men: The Last Stand. In the 2006 live-action film, Ben Foster played the kid version of Angel in a flashback, while Cayden Boyd portrayed him as an adult. Later, in X-Men: Apocalypse, Angel’s evil alter ego, Archangel, was played by Ben Hardy.

The fan-favorite winged mutant’s real name is Warren Worthington III. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, Angel was first introduced in the debut issue of X-Men in 1963. Thanks to his large feathered wings, he excels at high-altitude flight. Before joining Professor X, he fought crime on his own under the alias Avenging Angel.

His natural wings were severely damaged during the Mutant Massacre, leading to their amputation. Later, the villainous Apocalypse transformed him into a blue-skinned, evil Archangel by exploiting his emotional vulnerability. During this time, he underwent cybernetic reshaping and emerged with lethal metallic wings.

Germann initially auditioned for the role of Cyclops, which went to Heartstopper fame Kit Connor. However, Marvel later offered him the role of Angel.

Apart from Gen V, Germann was also seen in two episodes of The Boys Season 4. He also garnered attention with his performance as Lucas Bowden in Scream 7. The young star also appeared in one episode of the Netflix hit Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Asa Germann joins an already exciting cast lineup for the upcoming X-Men movie. Christopher Abbott is already confirmed as Professor X, while Adam Driver will star as the villain Mr. Sinister. Samara Weaving is set to play Emma Frost; Obsession star Inde Navarrette has landed Rogue, while Maya Boyd will be seen as Storm. In addition, Sadie Sink was already introduced as Jean Grey in the box-office hit Spider-Man: Brand News Day.

The X-Men reboot has been penned by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, while Jack Schreier, known for Thunderbolts, has joined as the director. Marvel’s Kevin Feige is helming the film as the primary producer.

X-Men is currently confirmed for a theatrical release on May 5, 2028.
