According to the B.C. Wildfire Service, the blaze is within 500 metres of several luxury homes on Black Bear Way, Fern Drive and Crystal Creek Drive. It has grown to the size of three Canadian Football League fields over the past few hours.

Three helicopters are dumping water on the area, while wildfire service attack crews, the Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department, Port Moody Fire Department and Metro Vancouver Wildfire Team are all on-site.

The fire was spotted in the Metro Vancouver-operated park on Wednesday afternoon and is believed to have been caused by human activity. As of 6:00 p.m. it was 0.015 square kilometres in size.

The 11-square kilometre waterfront park is located north of Port Moody and just west of the Village of Anmore. The Imperial Oil storage tank facility is to the south of the park.

The blaze is highly visible from the Lower Mainland, including Port Moody, Coquitlam and North Vancouver.

At this time there is no immediate threat to nearby structures, critical infrastructure, or public safety.
