Bayern Munich are still waiting for a definitive diagnosis on Vincent Kompany after the Belgian coach shockingly collapsed on Friday and was taken to hospital.
Speaking to Sky Germany on Sunday, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl gave a cautiously optimistic update on Kompany’s condition, revealing that he had paid him a visit in hospital the previous day.
“He is stable. I visited him on Saturday. We talked about life; we didn’t talk about football, the starting XI or the Bundesliga,” Eberl said, adding that Kompany is “doing well under the circumstances”.
“The most important thing is that we find out exactly what it is, without leaving anything unchecked, and then let the treatment take its course,” Eberl explained.
A return to the dugout is not currently a priority, with Eberl underlining that Kompany should only return once he has fully recovered.
“When he is full of energy again – which he probably already is – when he has his strength back and, above all, is healthy, then he will return,” Eberl said.
Until then, Kompany’s assistants, led by Aaron Danks, will continue to lead the team from the dugout.
