Even though it’s been 13 years since the release of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, it’s one of the most popular games out there, all thanks to modders. Creative modders continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the title and overhaul the title in ways Todd Howard could’ve never imagined.
However, modders are taking things up a notch with Skyblivion. This is a mod that recreates an entirely different game and has caught everyone’s attention. It’s looking to establish itself as a real competitor to Skyrim by perfecting one aspect that Howard and his team never failed to deliver on.
Skyblivion is ready to transform the Elder Scrolls franchise
If you’re unaware, Skyblivion is a long-awaited fan remake of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in Skyrim. It’s one of the biggest modding projects the franchise has ever seen, and gamers can’t help but wonder when they’ll be able to experience it.
TESRenewal, the group behind the mod, has finally given us a new progress update. According to developers, most of the world’s landscaping is finished, as are the quests, interiors, and other aspects. Navmeshing of the in-game world is still quite far away, and it’s an essential aspect. However, when Skyblivion ends up releasing, it won’t bring the content from Oblivion‘s expansions.
Once the main game of Skyblivion is released we will look into how we can tackle DLCs and we will be sure to share more information on our next steps closer to the time. We’re less than a year away from our target release of Skyblivion.
It’s clear that TESRenewal doesn’t want to rush in with all the DLCs that we saw for Oblivion because they’re an integral part of the game and need to be carefully approached. DLCs have always been a crucial part of Bethesda and Todd Howard, and they take all the precautions they can to nail them down.
For now, it seems like the fan-made mod is in a very good state and should be able to hit its 2025 release target. Once that’s out of the way, modders can take their time and plan out their path for the release of DLCs.
Official Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake might be on the horizon
If we take a look at all the rumors that surfaced in the last couple of weeks, Skyblivion might not be the only remake of Oblivion that gamers will be able to enjoy in 2025.
New reports suggest that Bethesda might be working on an Oblivion remake, and it could be revealed as early as January 2025 in an Xbox Direct Event. It’s not a surprise that Bethesda is going for a remake of this particular title, considering that it broke records upon its release in 2006.
Gamers across all social media platforms and boards are excited to see that Bethesda is finally giving Oblivion the treatment of a remake. However, it’s crucial to keep taking these rumors with a grain of salt, as nothing is officially confirmed at this point.
However, if the Oblivion remake is going to happen, it’s going to be interesting to see how it compares with the fan-made project.
