Watzke can't see Dortmund challenging "overwhelming favourites" Bayern

The Dortmund chief feels the financial gulf between the sides makes it difficult for them to pursue Bayern in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke doubts his side is capable of competing with Bayern Munich for the title this season. 

“Well, you have to be honest, we had a good Bundesliga season last year and picked up 73 points," Watzke said, speaking to Sky Germany.

"In the past, that would have been enough to win the title. Today, that’s no longer the case because FC Bayern dominate everything.

"At Dortmund, there’s only so much we can do to change that, because the gap between Germany’s top two clubs has become so vast economically.

“So we shouldn’t kid ourselves – Bayern Munich are overwhelming favourites,” the 67-year-old explained, highlighting his main concerns. 

Dortmund last lifted the Meisterschale in the 2011-12 season with 81 points compared to second-place Bayern's 73-point tally.
