The incident on the eve of Toronto’s opening game of the FIFA World Cup occurred Thursday at 5:42 a.m. in the Tretheway Drive and Black Creek Drive area.
Toronto Police say “officers were conducting a search warrant in the area” and “there was an exchange of gunfire” in which the “officer was shot.”
Witnesses say they heard up to ten gunshots.
One former police officer said there was a frantic scene of cars racing to the site and paramedics working feverishly to attend to the people who were shot.
Both are said to be in life-threatening condition.
Some reports say the officer was “vital signs absent” but was revived.
There was no other information immediately provided on the wounded officer.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
