The mystery of where Esther is has been solved. But the mystery of where she was for almost two weeks has not.

And there remains many questions about the man whose apartment Toronto Police found her in.

Friday offered little new information in what was a day of confusion on just where this investigation is at.

Police told reporters on Thursday that they were looking into the circumstances of how the North York girl made her way to a home in Rexdale and ended up in the company of a man who has been said was between 20 and 30.

Many are still praising the police effort to take a lead of her being spotted in a nearby plaza and landing on a residential street and getting the evidence to where she was and then going and completing the rescue.

But there are many questions of who this man was that she was with and why she was at this residence.

And could there have been a crime committed?

Things have not become clearer.

For a time Friday, word came from police was that they had closed the investigation and that there would be no charges.

Then, an hour later, police pulled that back and said while there has been no criminal charges laid to this point, the investigation is ongoing.

As of Friday night, all was quiet at this house in a neighbourhood near Islington and Kipling Aves.

The person who owns the house has told the Toronto Sun he did not know police had been at his abode at 1 p.m. on Thursday and had taken the girl and his tenant out from the basement apartment.

On Friday, he was not talking but was peering through the blinds of his living room toward media who had assembled on the street.

But the man who lives in the apartment who is said to work in construction has not been noticeable – although one neighbour told reporters that they did see police return him to the apartment about an hour after he was originally picked up.

In the meantime, Esther is said to still be receiving medical assistance in hospital.

Time will tell where this probe goes, but as of now it still remains a mystery of where she was during most of the more than 12 days away from her family. Outside of sightings of her near Earl Bales Park and at the Kennedy subway station and at a Walmart in Rexdale, there is not much known about how she filled that time.

With her being found in a black hoodie, much of which covered her face and fair, it is possible cameras did not pick up on her when she was moving around.

It’s unclear how long she was at the Rexdale residence.
