Dwayne Johnson surprised everyone in 2023 when he made a cameo appearance at the end of Fast X. He had a very public feud with Vin Diesel, during which he clearly stated that he did not intend to return to the franchise. However, it appears that the two stars have put behind their differences.
Diesel cheekily gave a shout-out to Johnson at the Golden Globes 2025, perhaps the first event where they came face-to-face after their feud.
When the cameras turned to him, Johnson gave an uncomfortable laugh at the mention of his name. The notorious feud began during the filming of the eighth film in the franchise. Johnson called out some of his male co-stars in the film for being unprofessional. Things blew up in 2021 when Johnson opened up about his differences with Diesel.
Vin Diesel’s cheeky gesture makes Dwayne Johnson uncomfortable during Golden Globes 2025
The 82nd Golden Globes appeared to be the first public event where Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson ran into each other. Diesel decided to highlight this moment in the most cheeky manner when he directly addressed Johnson while on stage. Diesel and Johnson both attended the event as presenters for the night.
Diesel took the stage to present the award for cinematic and box office achievement to Ariana Grande’s Wicked. When he stopped in front of the microphone for his speech, he took a pause and addressed Johnson first, “Hey, Dwayne.” The camera then turned to Johnson who was smiling uncomfortably at Diesel’s shout-out.

They couldn’t really figure out if it was a playful jab or something more. However, it appears that fans loved the drama, with some even commenting that it made the Golden Globes even more entertaining. Some of the fan reactions read:

He wrote on X after the film’s release, “Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us.” He promised to take care of the “franchise, characters & FANS” and to lead with “brotherhood and resolve.”
Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson’s feud explored
In 2016, Dwayne Johnson called out some of his male co-stars in Fate of the Furious, while praising his female co-stars and other crew members. He said at the time in a now-deleted Instagram post, “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t.” (via People). He further called these co-stars “too chicken sh*t” and “candy a**”.
The same year, a Page Six report suggested that Vin Diesel and Johnson were butting heads on the set of Fate of the Furious. During an interview with USA Today in 2017, Diesel quashed the feud rumors sharing that “things may be blown out of proportion.” He stated in the interview, “I protect the franchise. I protect everybody including Dwayne. I protected Dwayne more than he’ll ever know.”
In 2021, Diesel admitted to Men’s Health magazine that he used “tough love” with Johnson on the set of the movie. He shared, “My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be.” In July of the same year, Johnson announced his departure from the franchise. He responded to Diesel’s comments in October.
Johnson found the “tough love” comment laughable, sharing with Vanity Fair, “One part of me feels like there’s no way I would dignify any of that bullsh*t with an answer.” He further shared that they had a “meeting of clarity” in 2016 during the filming of Fate of the Furious. He shared that it became “crystal clear” that he and Diesel were “two separate ends of the spectrum.”
Vin Diesel wrote a lengthy Instagram post later that year, asking Johnson to return to the franchise. Johnson fired back at the post, accusing that it was Diesel’s “manipulation” (via CNN). He condemned his co-star bringing up his children and Paul Walker’s death in the post. He once again made it clear that he wouldn’t return to the franchise.
However, in 2023, Johnson went back on his words and appeared in a cameo role in Fast X. He even announced a Luke Hobbs-based spin-off movie, hinting that the two stars ended their feud.
