A deft driver helped a man escape a knife attack at a Surrey Park on Wednesday, reversing quickly up a road while the victim clung to the side of his Tesla with the alleged assailant in hot pursuit.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon around 4:45 p.m. at Redwood Park in South Surrey.

A man assaulted another man, then crashed his Jeep into the victim’s Ford F-150 as the man attempted to drive away. He then pulled out a knife, climbed on top of the truck and, when the victim ran, pursued him.

Robin Nuber, a photographer, had arrived at the park for a photo shoot when he saw what he thought was a road rage incident.

“Then someone yelled ‘he’s got a knife!’ and the guy started chasing the other guy towards my car,” he wrote on Instagram. “The guy ran up yelling for help, so I unlocked the door and started backing up while he tried to get in, he couldn’t get in in-time (sic) … and I ended up dragging him for like 100ft before he finally got inside.

“The guy with the knife eventually stopped, tossed it into the woods and went and sat down awaiting for the cops to arrive.”

Nuber kept the man in his car until police arrived, adding the man had a gouged eye, cuts and a bloody mouth. Nuber says he saw a police dog searching the nearby woods for the weapon.

Richard Mark James Evoy, 37, has been charged including assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, criminal harassment and uttering threats. He was taken into custody and has a scheduled appearance in Surrey provincial court on Thursday afternoon.
