“You have to wait until next week,” said a smiling Crouse when asked if the pair were on that winning trip. “Our friend is getting married in Majorca on the 14th so we are just kind of seeing Europe beforehand.”

The pair will have to keep their secret for another week but in the meantime, they were happy to explain what led them to the final round and a shot at the winning prize package that includes that trip around the world as well as two electric vehicles and $250,000.

“We had to provide such a positive attitude (for) each other while we were in it because we knew we were both doing challenges that were way out of our comfort zone,” said Gillies who added the pair weren’t very strong at puzzles and arts and crafts type challenges. “We were really positive and just made sure we leaned on each other.

“It doesn’t matter if we’re successful or it doesn’t matter if we fail. It wouldn’t change how we feel about each other.”

It’s that deep friendship and true partnership that Crouse and Gillies say is essential for anybody who wants to try their hand at TARC.

“Choose the right partner for yourself,” said Crouse. “Understand that this race is going to truly challenge you, so pick the right partner. Pick someone you trust. Pick someone you have travelled with before and then just shoot your shot.”
