Union Berlin set to loan Latte Lath from Atlanta United

Emmanuel Latte Lath is set to join Union Berlin from MLS side Atlanta United, according to Tom Bogert.

Union Berlin won the race for the signing of Ivorian striker Emmanuel Latte Lath, according to renowned MLS journalist Tom Bogert. Middlesbrough were earlier linked with an attempt to bring back the player to Riverside Stadium a year after his €21 million move.

Latte Lath scored 11 goals in 48 appearances for Atlanta United. He was out of the squad in the last three Atlanta United games, including yesterday’s 3-2 defeat to Philadelphia Union as they squandered a two-goal lead in the final 20 minutes.

Atlanta United currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference in MLS. Bogert specified Latte Lath’s departure will open up a designated player (DP) spot for Atlanta, although it’s a one-year loan deal agreed between the parties.

Union Berlin are having a tough pre-season in terms of results, although a late brace from Ilyas Ansah avoided a fourth defeat in a 2-2 draw with Cagliari earlier today. Mauro Lustrinelli is the new coach of the club after he led newly-promoted FC Thun to a Swiss Super League title.
