I stand behind our prime minister, Mark Carney, for standing up against Donald Trump. In my life I learned you must stand up against bullies. Once you back down, it only encourages them to become worse. Punch them in the nose or kick them in the jewels. But never back down.

Now that an additional 50 per cent tariff has been applied to all goods exported to the U.S., it’s time to pull the big switch on electricity exported south of the border and keep it off until the guy in the Oval Office removes all tariffs against Canada!

And forget about placing U.S. alcohol on our retail shelves ever again; we don’t need American-made gut-rot!

Trump is on a mission to destroy the Canadian economy, and especially Ontario’s automotive sector. Retaliatory tariffs will mean nothing to him!

Provincial action is urgently needed on the trade file before our automotive workers are sent to the unemployment line, impacting other sectors like Canadian steel and aluminum!

We can stock U.S. booze, but not buy it

I have always known that the removal of bourbon and other American wines and spirits would be a good bargaining tool for Canada. I am amazed at how effective our response has been. A major irritant, no less.

So, perhaps, in order to avoid crippling tariffs, Canada and the provinces should agree to put the booze back on the shelves.

And there it can stay. It will be very pretty. I won’t buy it. Ever. Canada makes great wine and liquors. And I think the premiers should trust Canadians to express our displeasure.

The Town of Smiths Falls administration has disgraced itself once again. Who was the convenor of the meeting responsible for the substance of subject matter, which was a foreseeable certainty to offend and ambush Christin Storms?

She has a right to be furious, having dedicated countless hours organizing and presenting a successful monthly summer event (Smiths Falls Bike Night), which realizes such a huge attendance of thousands with a level of benefit to downtown commerce.

And why would police think she should take the law into her own hands in attempt to bar attendees viewed as unwanted, an act potentially in breach of Charter rights. Instead of being praised, she gets railroaded. Stand up and apologize and encourage her return to the role.

Let the ByWard Market save itself

The ByWard Market area was once a thriving neighbourhood with numerous farmer and other vendors and many people coming there to take advantage of the offerings and enjoy the ambiance.

The city government then decided it needed to be” fixed” and successive administrations have continued to fix the previous fixes with terrible results. The best thing the city could do to have the market thrive again is to get out of the way and leave it alone and let it develop organically, rather than being pushed into some mould created by politicians and bureaucrats.
