Trio busted in Scarborough shooting; man gunned down in Toronto’s west end

A B.C. man faces charges tied to 'extortion-related' shootings in Peel Region; and the SIU is probing a woman's death at an Oshawa hospital

Three young men face charges – and a handgun has been seized – in connection with a shooting in Scarborough two months ago.

Toronto Police say officers responded to a shooting call in the area of Kennedy Rd. and Antrim Cr. – north of Progress Ave. – around 10 p.m. on Feb. 20.

“It is alleged that a group of men attended the victim’s home and were threatening him,” police said in a statement released Friday.

Police allege the victim “refused to come out of his home” and “during the incident one of the men was shot.”

Investigators subsequently identified three suspects, then arrested the trio and seized a firearm last Monday.

Omran Hamid, 19, of Toronto, is charged with uttering threats, criminal harassment and possession of a loaded restricted firearm.

Anawar Ali, 20, of Toronto, is charged with criminal harassment and possession of a loaded restricted firearm.

Yasser Al-As, 21, of Toronto, is charged with criminal harassment and possession of a loaded restricted firearm.

MAN SHOT DEAD IN TORONTO’S WEST END

A man was gunned down in the city’s west end Friday night.

Toronto Police say gunshots rang out in the area of Scarlettwood Rd. and Scarlettwood Ct. – north of Eglinton Ave. W. – shortly after 10 p.m.

Officers responded to a call for the “sounds of gunshots” and located a man who had been shot,” police said in a message posted on X late Friday.

“Life-saving measures were performed,” police said, explaining the victim was rushed to hospital via an “emergency run with life-threatening injuries.”

The victim was later pronounced dead.

His name and age were not immediately released.

Police have not revealed any further details in what’s believed to be the city’s sixth murder of the year – the fourth by gunfire – and no suspect description has been released.

“This is now a homicide investigation,” police said, adding the investigation is “ongoing.”

B.C. MAN NABBED FOR 2025 ‘EXTORION-RELATED’ SHOOTINGS IN PEEL REGION

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on the West Coast in connection with two “extortion-related” shootings that occurred in Peel Region 17 months ago.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers from their Caledon Detachment – in collaboration with Peel Regional Police and the Canada Border Services Agency – have charged a man in relation to the two early-morning shootings that unfolded on the same day – one in Caledon and one in Brampton.

OPP officers responded to a report of a shooting in front of a residence on Old School Rd., in Caledon, around 3 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2025.

“No injuries were reported,” the OPP said in a statement released Friday.

On the same day, shortly after 3 a.m., Peel Regional Police responded to another shooting on Advance Blvd. – near Dixie Rd. And Steeles Ave. E. – in Brampton.

“These incidents are linked to ongoing extortion-related activity in the area,” the OPP alleged.

Investigators subsequently identified a suspect and travelled to British Columbia where they executed an arrest warrant on Friday. 

Ravinder Singh, 23, of B.C., is charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

The accused remained in custody and was scheduled to appear in a Brampton court on Saturday.

“These investigations remain ongoing and are being conducted by the Caledon OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in partnership with PRP and CBSA,” the OPP said.

SIU PROBING WOMAN’S DEATH AT OSHAWA HOSPITAL

The province’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate after a 23-year-old woman died in an Oshawa hospital parking garage Thursday night.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says the incident began with Durham Regional Police receiving a call about “a woman in crisis” in the area of Simcoe St. N. and Winchester Rd. E. in Oshawa.

“Officers apprehended her and took her to the Lakeridge Health Oshawa hospital,” the SIU said in a statement released Friday.

“A short time later, the woman was released from the hospital,” the SIU explained. “Security located the woman in the hospital’s parking garage and alerted officers.”

The SIU said officers searched for the woman and found her “on the ground below.”

“She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased,” the SIU said.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled to be conducted on Saturday to determine the cause of her death.
