Tragic Story of My 600-Lb Life Alumn Renee Biran, What Happened to Her After Season 6?

1 week ago 13

Life tends to throw several curveballs our way when it’s least expected. Renee Biran (Carlock) was one such individual who faced several challenges during her incredible weight loss journey. Back in 2018, Biran rose to fame after appearing on TLC’s hit show, My 600-Lb Life, where she made necessary efforts to get her health back in order.

Per usual, Biran sought help from the iconic Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, who has helped multiple individuals recover from their obese lifestyles. One interesting fact about Biran however, is that she was a former plus-size model. But upon realizing that people (a.k.a Feeders) were willing to pay her money to eat, she took it up as a new way to make money.

Keep in mind, that this wasn’t how she became obese. She had already been diagnosed with obesity at the age of 11 as she developed an eating disorder. She claimed food was her only escape from facing her father’s abuse.

Renee Biran made steady progress before things reached a point of no return

After adopting this new lifestyle, Renee Biran ended up becoming obese which seriously affected various aspects of her life. The health complications kept unravelling and that was when she decided to pay a visit to Dr. Now in Houston, Texas.

Shockingly, Biran weighed a staggering 631 lbs at the time of her first appointment with Dr. Now, the famous surgeon. What inspired her to lose half weight was the idea of getting a gastric bypass surgery. This is a surgery that helps change the way food passes through the intestines, thus resulting in weight loss.

Renee Biran was loved so much by her fans because she was an extremely positive individual who loved keeping in touch with her fanbase, friends, and family. The TLC icon would often share inspirational messages via her Facebook account as well.

Things were going pretty well for the 55-year-old (then) until January 2020. Biran had lost 250 lbs before going radio silent later that year. She was also deemed fit enough to move forward with the gastric bypass procedure.

But life hit Renee Biran with another obstacle that became the only battle that kept her from attaining a healthier life.

Renee Biran’s Guillain-Barré syndrome diagnosis and death

Unfortunately, Renee Biran developed a rare autoimmune disease called Guillain-Barré syndrome. This disease is notorious for affecting the nerves in the body which in turn causes great weakness and extreme tingling sensation, often making it very uncomfortable for the patient.

Biran was already diagnosed with the disease in 2019, much before things took a turn for the worse. It was later that same year that she also moved into a nursing home, which Biran had initially dreaded. According to Screen Rant, she said

Had I known I would get such good care, I would have come [much] sooner.

Renee Biran passed away on May 14, 2021, in Athens, Tennessee at the age of 56. The cause of her death remains unknown, however, it could’ve been influenced by Guillain-Barré syndrome and her weight.

Her obituary was released online, revealing a few interesting details about her life that many fans weren’t aware of. Biran was a Christian and she survived alongside seven of her children, Lanika Carlock, Brentney Bradson, Dimitrius Bradson, Monique Bradley, Aaron Johnson, Portia Wilson, and Travis Young (Via TV Shows Ace).

Biran also had 28 grandchildren. It was said that Biran was an extremely confident and youthful soul. May she rest in peace.

My 600-lb Life can be streamed on Discovery+ and Hulu.
