Now the Leafs’ farm team is already down to a winner-take-all game in a best-of-three against the Rochester Americans. The Buffalo Sabres’ affiliate, despite sending some key players up to the parent club’s NHL post-season push, evened it at 1-1 Friday night at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y.

Replying to Toronto’s 5-0 win in Game 1, the Amerks blanked the Marlies 4-0, forcing Game 3 Sunday back at Coca-Cola Coliseum at 4 p.m. The victor in this series advances to face the North Division’s first place team, the Laval Rocket, farm team of the Canadiens.
The Marlies made no lineup changes on Friday from Game 1, once more dressing those who finished the season with the Leafs, led by right wingers Bo Groulx, Easton Cowan and Jacob Quillan. Cowan led the Marlies on Friday with four shots on goal, Alex Nylander had three, with Toronto 0-for-3 on the power play.
Artur Akhtymaov also played again in net, making 18 saves to Devon Levi’s 29 in the shutout.
Scoring for the Amerks were Konsta Helenius, Carson Meyer, Vsevolod Komarov and Ryan Johnson with an empty-netter.
