Tony Romo on leave from CBS Sports following OWI arrest

Tony Romo has been sidelined from his job following his arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

“Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice,” a rep for the network told Page Six on Friday — just over a week after the retired NFL star was nabbed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Romo has yet to address the matter publicly, and his reps have not responded to our repeated requests for comment.

Following his April 2017 retirement from playing football, Romo began working for CBS Sports and is currently the network’s lead NFL game color analyst.

Last Thursday, he was pulled over by a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office deputy for “unsafe passing” while he was driving southbound I-43 on the high-rise bridge.

The 46-year-old seemed confused by the traffic stop and said he was on his way to his grandparents’ house after spending the day at a golf course.

The arresting deputy told Romo he was under investigation for OWI “based on [his] driving and where [he was] coming from” as well as his “red, glassy eyes and the odor of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage on [his] breath.”

Though the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback insisted he had “zero” alcoholic beverages, the deputy said they found “a few shooters” in his backpack. The California Post went on to report that deputies also discovered an “open bottle of an alcoholic beverage” on the passenger side of his car.

Romo was then taken to the station, where he struggled through a field sobriety test.

In bodycam footage, he was seen asking whether he could stretch before completing the routine tasks and then proceeded to do so on one of the patrol vehicles.

At one point, a deputy asked Romo whether he understood the instructions, to which he replied, “No, there’s too many.”

Though the ex-athlete had a hard time following along, he still asked the deputies whether he passed. They then asked whether he’d submit to a breathalyzer, to which he responded, “Oh, no, we’re not doing that. I already heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that.”

He added, “Like I said, I want my lawyer — for the eighth time.”

Romo also asked whether he could call his parents, and the deputies said he would be able to in due time. They explained they would be asking a judge to sign off on a warrant to obtain a blood draw to determine what — if anything — was in his system and how much.

He has been cited for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possessing open intoxicants in his car, unsafe passing and refusing to take a chemical test for intoxication following an arrest for OWI, which triggered the state’s notice to revoke his driver’s license. However, he has requested a refusal hearing.

Following the arrest — which marks his first — the sports commentator was booked and released shortly after and is due in court for an intake hearing on Sept. 21.

Romo is married to former Miss Missouri USA Candice Crawford, with whom he shares three sons.
