Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s was one of the most talked-about love affairs of all time, even more so when it came to their abrupt divorce. For around 6 happy years, the pair showered each other with tremendous love and respect as they even cemented the “It” couple of Hollywood front by working together professionally, but the inevitable split soon followed in 2001.
Now, years later, it seems like the divorce may not have been a mutual decision after all. Back then, when Cruise filed for divorce from Kidman, it came as a devastating surprise to many. Turns out, it was an equally tragic surprise to the wife as well, who seems to have been against this split, with only the actor reportedly seeking to lawfully separate himself from her.
Nicole Kidman reportedly didn’t split from Tom Cruise of her own will
It sounds like the one to blame for the Cruise-Kidman divorce is none other than the actor himself, for the actress was reportedly against it all in the first place. According to what the Babygirl actress claimed in an interview with DuJour magazine:
If anything, it is even reported that Tom Cruise‘s decision to leave her was rather abrupt, with no explanation being revealed except for an enigmatic “Nic knows why.” Later on, a rep shed light on their divorce, revealing in a statement to Daily Mail (via The Mirror), “This divorce was not her decision. Tom made the move… Nicole is in a state of shock.”
In fact, reports from both of these sources even had that Nicole Kidman pleaded with him to stay, with one of them even claiming that she “protested [Cruise’s] intention to dissolve their marriage and urged him not to leave but to enter marriage counseling with her, or take other steps to address whatever problems may have existed in their marriage.”
However, rather than solving the problems, Cruise reportedly no longer wanted to invest any further time into their relationship. Per what the rep told the Daily Mail, “Tom said his decision was final and he departed the parties’ home.” That said, it inevitably sounds like Kidman reportedly didn’t split from Cruise of her own will, but she was also left pretty devastated about it all.
Nicole Kidman was reportedly grieving a miscarriage at the time of her divorce
On the one hand, while reports about the end of their marriage being solely the Top Gun actor’s decision is one thing, further reports, on the other hand, reveal heartbreaking details that The Perfect Couple actress was ostensibly undergoing the grieving process following a miscarriage when her then-husband decided to put an end to their marriage.
Getting candid with Marie Claire about it all years after her divorce from Cruise that left many reeling, Kidman honestly confessed, “I had a miscarriage at the end of my marriage, but I had an ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of it. It was incredibly traumatic.” Needless to say, that was all nothing short of a grievous period for her.
During another interview with Tatler (via E! Online), she further talked about the miscarriage, saying,
All of this being said, it seems like it truly had been a traumatizing period for Nicole Kidman, since she was not only going through a failed pregnancy but even her husband left her. But this also makes her all the more commendation-worthy, considering how she learned to carve the perfect personality for herself despite being faced with such tremendous tragedies in life.
