The 2000s had a bunch of television shows that captivated the hearts of millions of silver screen enthusiasts around the world. Dexter was one show that had people glued to their television sets back in the day. Released on October 1, 2006, just in time to set the tone for Halloween that year, Dexter had a lengthy run until airing its final episode on September 22, 2013.

The final season of the pilot series had Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) fake his death in a hurricane to escape the growing suspicion of him being a serial killer. The character then escapes to a nearby town from Miami, picking up a new identity to hide from the law. This inspired a follow-up series called Dexter: New Blood (2021)

However, Paramount and Showtime are coming together to produce a new series that will reflect Dexter’s upbringing.

Dexter: Original Sin just released its first trailer and fans are stoked!

Recently, fans were delighted with the announcement of Dexter: Original Sin. Hall’s character certainly left several fans with unanswered questions following the initial series. One of the biggest questions was how the character became a vigilante hungry for blood.

The months of August and September have brought many gifts to humanity from all kinds of fields such as cinema, music, and sports as well. Dexter: Original Sin will also be bearing the gift of Michael C. Hall’s return.

But this time, he will be returning as the inner voice of Dexter Morgan. Here’s what a few fans had to say about the announcement.

The prequel series will also feature Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and a very special guest, Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Clyde Phillips will be returning as the showrunner, after leaving the initial series after four seasons.

Original Sin will feature 10 episodes in its pilot season (Via The Hollywood Reporter). Production is currently underway in Los Angeles and in addition to the existing set of producers, Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns will be joining the crew.

Will Dexter: Original Sin set the base for another series?

In New Blood, Dexter’s character was shot by his estranged son, Harrison. His death seemed like it was the end of his storyline. However, that might not have been the end of the thriller series.

While speaking about Original Sin at Comic Con in August, Michael C. Hall explained that the upcoming series might set the precedent for a future sequel. According to Entertainment Weekly, he said,

I can’t wait, like as a fan, to watch it, and as an actor, to spend time seeing real footage of things that I’ve sort of tried to imagine for myself when I imagine what Dexter’s early days [were like].

Hall further explained that Original Sin will inform fans about whatever is in store for the character is a potential sequel to New Blood. He added,

I’m going to have this technicolor version of his memories to refer to. And I think it will help inform my experience of whatever comes next in the other series, which I can only speak vaguely about at this point.

Dexter: Original Sin will premiere on December 13 for streaming platforms, while December 15 is the set date for its release on cable.

Dexter: Original Sin will be streamed on Paramount+.
