Stranger Things Star Sadie Sink Could Take Over Carrie Fisher’s Role in Young Leia Organa Series
Actress Carrie Fisher debuted in the role of Princess Leia Organa in 1977’s Star Wars directed by George Lucas. Since then, the actress has been synonymous with the character, until her untimely passing in 2016. However, the character could still return to our screens with a series focusing on a young Princess Leia.

The Star Wars franchise has already dipped into Leia’s story pre-A New Hope, with a younger version of the character appearing in the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries.
However, a young Leia series could focus on the character’s earliest involvement with the rebel alliance. At the same time, the series could also explore Leia’s upbringing on Alderaan. Hence, there is at least some potential in exploring the story of a young Princess Leia.
With Stranger Things, Sink has already proven that she can portray the tenacity of Princess Leia. However, her nuanced performances in movies like The Whale, prove she can add depth to the character. Moreover, Sink also bears some physical resemblance to Fisher, which eases any fan concern regarding the handing over of the iconic role.
Young Leia Organa Series Unlikely to Happen After Kathleen Kennedy’s Comments
A Young Leia Organa series would almost certainly require Lucasfilm to recast the role of one of the core cast members of the original trilogy. Given the reverence and popularity enjoyed by these legacy characters that might not be the best move, especially considering the poor reactions to Han Solo’s recasting with a younger actor for Solo.

I never say never. It’s certainly not something that we’re doing with any intention right now.
Kennedy made the above statement regarding the potential recasting of legacy characters such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. Moreover, the producer stressed that the franchise needed to move beyond the Skywalker saga and explore new avenues.
From Kennedy’s comments, it is evident that the franchise’s desire to move on from the legacy characters makes the chances of a young Leia series happening extremely slim. Moreover, aside from Obi-Wan Kenobi, the franchise’s current slate does not include any projects set during the post-Revenge of the Sith timeline, confirming that a young Leia series isn’t on the cards.
