The casting here is clearly aimed at a younger streaming audience, pulling leads from some of the biggest YA titles of the last few years. Kathryn Newton, who plays Sara, is the most established horror name in the group, with Freaky, Lisa Frankenstein, Abigail, and Ready or Not 2 behind her.

The Devil’s Mouth Plot: What Is This Survival Thriller About?

Five friends head to Thailand’s coast for one last trip before real life starts. They sign up for a guided swim through a remote cave system known as the Devil’s Mouth, which is beautiful, famous, and completely unforgiving. The twist is in the setup.

A freak storm the week before flooded the caves with seawater and swept ocean life inside. Most of those creatures died once the water turned fresh again. However, a bull shark survives in this freshwater.

What follows is a chase through a maze of narrow tunnels with a bull shark hunting them. But the shark isn’t the only problem. As the group gets lost and the oxygen runs down, old resentments surface and the friendships start to come apart. The official synopsis promises that sacrifices will have to be made, which is rarely good news for an ensemble this size (via Amazon MGM Press).

The Devil’s Mouth Trailer: What Does It Reveal About the Threat?

The trailer, released in late June, opens like a holiday advert with the group drinking, sailing, and jumping off a boat into clear blue water. The danger starts when they set out for the cave.

The short clip shows the entrance to the cave, which is framed to look like a shark’s open mouth, with jagged rocks standing in for teeth.
