Matt Reeves has revealed that he is almost done with the script for The Batman Part II. Fans are speculating who the next antagonist will be for the Bat of Gotham. While they are keen on seeing someone like the Court of Owls in a live-action setting, there is one reason why fans think it might be a bad idea.

The first Batman film with Matt Reeves dealt with a family conspiracy that spanned the deep history of Gotham, heavily concerning the Waynes. Should Matt Reeves’ sequel deal with the Court of Owls, fans are concerned that the plot of the film might be a little repetitive for audiences’ tastes.

The Court of Owls is a set of Batman villains that fans cannot wait to see adapted in all their glory in live-action. However, Matt Reeves’ films about the characters might not be the place for them. Given that most of the drama about the Court of Owls concerns the Waynes and the history of Gotham City, something that has already been explored with the Riddler in The Batman, Matt Reeves would be hard-pressed to pivot to a different villain to avoid the sense of monotony in the character.

Having the Court of Owls in the DCU would make a lot more sense, given that the universe starts out with a very rich history already in place. The DCU’s Gotham will probably feature a Batman who already has three of his Robins, with his son being his current protege. Exploring the history of Gotham and the Wayne family with Damian by his side might be a plot that suits the DCU’s Batman much better than Matt Reeves’ young lone wolf.

The Court of Owls could introduce Talons into the DCU

One of the main enforcers of the Court of Owls is a suited assassin called Talons, who could serve as a worthy opponent to Batman and Robin. In fact, a particular Talon and the Court of Owls played a role in Batman vs. Robin, which had Damian Wayne trying to figure out the kind of person he wanted to be, with Batman contrasted with Talon.

Introducing this character in James Gunn‘s DCU will cause conflict between Damian and Bruce. Given that Bruce Wayne would be concerned with raising his son in an adequate manner, away from the influence of Ra’s al Ghul. it would be quite dramatic for him to uncover the role his family had in the dirtying and corrupting of Gotham’s institution something, that has directly affected him and his son as crime fighters.

The Batman can be streamed on Max.
