From the electronic pulses and driving beats of Planet Claire that open The B-52s self-titled debut, the band has a madcap approach to music-making which put fun front and centre. Songs such as Roam and Love Shack were radio hits and audiences rolling around on the arena floors doing the Rock Lobster dance became a feature of the group’s shows.

With their visionary and weird art rock stylings, Devo were radio mainstays. Singles such as Whip It, Mongoloid, Beautiful World and Girl U Want established the group’s robotic and hard-rocking sound as a template for post-punk music worldwide. The focus of a recent Chris Smith-directed documentary that was a hit on Netflix, Devo continues to be one of rock music’s most intriguing acts.
